I choose Farragut
Ok. We went, we saw, we chose Farragut. Maryville is definitely beautiful and a very nice town. Just from a quick weekend viewing, I would definitely recommend at least considering it. It has a small town feel, with lots of conveniences. People are proud of their properties $$$ if you know what I mean. There seems to be a misconception that if you are moving from FL you will appreciate the prices.....we did not find that to be true. With no data to back me up, it seems that FL has started to dramatically cut prices, but Maryville (among other E. TN locations) has not gotten the memo. We chose Farragut simply because of convenience. It is a little more convenient than the neighborhoods and homes that WE saw in Maryville. We found a great house in Farragut at a good price (special situation) and we like the overall look of the area. Everything is manicured and very nice. We also really like the greenway. What's up with everyone saying that Farragut is snobby? Our realtor said it. 2 people my husband will be working with said it??? Anybody know why? It didn't seem so, we talked to a few people, everyone seemed nice. Anyway, I hope my comments will give any new lookers some info for their databases.

They say it's snobby b/c it is the money area of Knoxville. Plain and simple.

Hahah,
Welcome to Farragut, home of the faux snobs! Actually many Farragut folks are just highly in debt so they can attempt to play the game. They want to be snobs but don't have the old money to do it, hence... faux snobs.
Fame is fleeting you know. I always thought it was so funny that Farragut prides itself on being the "best" in everything. Farragut high school is only ranked 1250th in the nation. Come on now 1200+ schools are better than Farragut. Yes you have Turkey Creek. It's just a shopping area, not a natural resource, not an necessity, just some stores to buy things.
You sure are correct about pricing in Maryville and others. While FL is tanking and starting to become more reasonably priced, much of East TN prices are way beyond the historical norm. Economics dictate that they must return to the norm. Start dropping your prices so everyone can race to the bottom from here, it's a competition to oblivion.
Best of luck!

Plus, Farragut snubbed its nose at Knoxville in 1980 by becoming its own city rather than being annexed by Knoxville. Ever since, people in Farragut have had a reputation of being insular and snobby.
(On a side note: The vast majority of Turkey Creek is not in Farragut.)

Congratulations on choosing Farragut. We lived there for a time, and my Mom still lives there, in Wentworth. I do agree with you that Maryville has, compared to areas of West Knoxville, higher priced homes. I have found that one usually gets what they pay for in one way or another. Maryville is certainly not for everyone and it is good that you have found a place that you like. After my son was duct taped to his chair by his teacher at Farragut Primary (she admitted this and said she was under a lot of stress from her dad's illness - yes, she is still teaching there), and we saw just how "excellent" the schools were, we knew it wasn't for us. Luckily, diversity and "different strokes for different folks" makes the world go 'round!

People choosing a neighborhood because it's "manicured" sometimes conjures up the "snobby" comment. lol

Touche` but the manicured view is much nicer than the **** fighting roosters, the lean to houses & double wides on the street getting to my $390k home.

Ah, I guess the difference is once I move from NJ, I will never again own a $300K + home. Enjoy Farragut--it seems like a nice area!
