Hi all, thanks in advance for reading!

My partner and I are both transferring in to Knoxville from Johnson City. This is happening within the next two weeks and we are still not settled on an area. I am looking for input on potential areas/complexes/communities that would allow 2 boxers (about 60-65lbs each). I am used to paying pet-rent and deposits, but the issue is finding a place in a LGBT tolerant area that is central to both Maryville and North Knoxville --- any suggestions or recommendations would be totally awesome!

Thanks again!

West Knoxville would be a great choice. Its a good middle way point for commutes to both Maryville and North Knoxville. Plus, its growing a lot and has plenty of shopping, restaurants, etc for your pleasure.

I also feel its a tolerant area and my partner and I feel comfortable here. I'm not too sure though about pet policies so Im no help there. Sorry.

You and the dogs will fit in well in West Knoxville. What kind of place are you looking for? apartment complex? luxury? house? You get the drift.

Thank you for your responses! I have heard many good things about West Knox, but am unsure where this area starts and begins (like a loose radius). I have looked at Forrest Ridge, but feel it is a little too far out for my commute. I am looking to stay within a rent range of $700 - $950, apartment, townhouse, condo, house-- it doesn't really matter as long as our boxers (and our lifestyle) is welcomed!

One of the more pleasant aspects of life here is that Knoxville is large enough to be inclusive. There's always someone there who shares your views, if you can just figure out how to locate them.

'West' Knoxville seems to be fairly open-ended depending on whom you're talking to.

There are many good, safe places to walk your dogs. You might want to check out the dog parks before you decide on a neighborhood. And dogs on leashes are welcome in parks in both Knoxville and Knox County.

West Knoxville is great but I have to say that North Knoxville and the downtown area would be very welcoming as well. In fact, although I think West Knoxville is a wonderful area with lots of transplants, too, it also can be conservative or close-minded like any other area.

I agree that downtown and north Knoxville are the most LGBT friendly in the city. However, a commute to Maryville would be a killer (relatively). Alcoa Hwy seems like it's always super busy during peaks.

How "city" ish are you looking for? Seymour is just a few minutes from downtown Knoxville and is an easier back-way commute into Maryville. Otherwise, I'd recommend Bearden, downtown or North and use alcoa highway.

.
Which is why we wont live in North Knoxville. He doesnt want to take Alcoa Hwy twice a day and I dont want him to either. Pellisippi Pkwy is much better.

One more vote that Alcoa Hwy isn't a fun commute.

It's fairly easy to visit places and pick up a vibe. It's friendly or not. You can't really characterize entire sections of a city based on individual reactions. I'm in far west Knoxville and it's a laid back friendly neighborhood that seems inclusive. We all know when we're in our comfort zone.

Let me clarify. I think ALL of Knoxville and Knox County is very welcoming. There are close-minded people everywhere. In some of the rural communities farther out you may find some pushback.
