Default Taxes and services around Knoxville?

Hello,

My family is looking at Knoxville, Tennessee as a place to call home. Our big question is what kind of taxes and services need to be paid?? We moved to PA from Florida three years ago and were suprised to find out all of the different taxes and services we needed to pay. In Tallahassee, FL the taxes we would have had would be state income tax and your property tax. Our services like electric, water, etc were all in one bill and provided by the city.

Here is the tax list:
local school taxes
local income taxes
local income county taxes
state income taxes
right to work tax

Now the service list:
garbage service
water and sewer service
electric service
recycle service

Thanks for any information. John Lowman.

Tennessee has no state income tax. If you live in the city, your city property taxes pay for garbage service. If you live in the county, you'll have to pay a private firm for garbage service or just take your own garbage to one of the many convenience centers throughout the county.

Knoxville does not have curbside recycling; you'll have to take your recyclables to a recycling center, of which there are many throughout Knox County (at the above-mentioned convenicne centers as well as many Kroger and Food City parking lots in the city).

Most of Knox County's utilities are provided through Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB). That includes water/sewer, gas, and electricity.

Your property taxes pay for the schools; there is no separate school tax.

Go to this link to read about Tennessee's taxes and to figure out what your property tax will be--they vary from city to city and county to county.
