Default Maryville/Alcoa Housing

The last time I was thru the area, some of the housing looked a little on the unkept side, please do not take any offense, I am sure things have picked up alot since I have been there. I actually loved the park systems/the library and how cute it was but a little leary of the neighborhoods. Did I just only see some of the bad areas? I mean I can't even remember where I was anymore it has been so long, but I have always thought it would be fun to live there for a while. It does have the laid back feel to it, but I would like to know if I could pick up a nice house there, maybe in the 90,000 range. I only need a one or two bedroom. I have seen some on realtor.com but kind of iffy and it looks like some of them have been on the market forever. Are there certain areas that are better to buy in than others? Neighborhoods I need to stay away from? I am elderly and female who lives alone, so I think Maryville would fit my needs but need something safe. I would like to be able to garden, and take walks to the park and the library. Can anyone help me with neighborhoods or zipcodes that I can put into trulia, or realtorcom that I can pick up a fairly nice house.
Please understand I wasn't trying to offend anyone.....Just an old lady trying to find a place to spend the rest of her life.
