Wow! Great pictures. Thank you for your contribution. Do we have a photo thread? I noticed that many of the other city forums have a stickied photo thread, and maybe we could start the same.

Cool pics, it would be neat to see them beside some old timey photos of the same places. I wish I knew where to find some so I could post them; I know I've seen some cool pics of the Old City circa the 1920s or so up on the wall at Pres Pub in Market Square, and there's Patrick Sullivan's in the middle of everything.

I have to admit though, something about the Gay Street Arby's and its semi-landmark status makes me chuckle.

I did a quick search and did not come up with anything. I figure if there is no thread, than people can add their pictures to this one. I don't think Knoxville gets enough credit for the beauty of its downtown since it is relatively small and "short." Not enough street level photography!

Interestingly, after I took these, my dad showed me some pictures he had taken (many of them from the same locations) when he was in school here in the early 1970s. It was interesting how little, and how much certain things had changed!

As for the Arby's...it's a landmark because it's the only fast food chain in downtown Knoxville!

This is our Matt Ward's picture of downtown this past winter during our "big" snowstorm. I'm using it with his kind permission. Hard to believe it was in the 70s, yesterday, yet this wasn't that long ago.

I would suggest going on to flickr.com and searching "greenbelt tn" and you'll find a lot of photos people have taken on the Maryville/Alcoa greenbelt.

Welllll...these aren't exactly of Knoxville...but the areas in the MSA and CSA (Gatlinburg & some of Blount County on Chilhowee Mountain).

LeConte!!

With an immediate rise of more than 1 mile from base to summit, Mount LeConte is definitely on of the most impressive and imposing mountains in all of the east.

Calderwood Lake on the Little Tennessee River, view from US 129 "The Tail of the Dragon"

A very cool look down the gorge towards Calderwood Dam. This is one of many dams built for Tallassee Power Company (Tapoco) in the early part of last century to provide the electricity necessary to operate the ALCOA aluminum plant. This dam was built in 1930.

Closeup

View from Foothills Pkwy. Why do they call them thar the Smoky Mountains again?

Southern Blount County from Chilhowee Mountain.

And the next time someone from Pennsylvania calls you a redneck, you have my permission, and are more than welcome to use this photograph as evidence:

Time to revive our picture thread. It would be GREAT if this was a sticky for Knoxville. Hint, hint, wink, wink, my friends.

Typical Saturday morning in Knoxville. The only thing different was the two guys on the stage. They were part of the Biscuit Festival. Otherwise, this is representative of our Saturday farmer's market.
