I had planned on moving to Maryville, but it seems I may have completely misjudged the distance from there to Gatlinburg (unless it is less than an hour? Are there secret roads I don't know about?).

If you were working in Gatlinburg, which areas would be good options? Or do most people who work there also live there?

As for us, we are so flexible. We love the city and we love the country. I like the small town feel. I also have 3 kids 5,7 and 9 so schools do matter. I like having amenities near, but do not mind driving 20 mins to say a walmart, target, etc. Basically, we can be happy in many places.

By looking at a map it seems Walland and Townsend may be options, or maybe Crosby on the other side. I guess my concern is I don't really want to live in Gatlinburg/PF/Sevierville or deal with the tourist, traffic, etc all day every day - rather just go there to work if that makes sense.

Thank you so much!

No there are no secret shortcuts from Maryville to Gatlinburg. I do not think most Gatlinburg employees live in that town. I would suggest looking at the "quiet" side of Gatlinburg ... toward Pittman Center. You will have to drive thru the tourism/traffic to get to Walmart no matter what. You will have long windy roads no matter what. My husband's boss works in PF (Old Mill) and lives in Cosby and it takes her 40-45 min to get there. If you live in Townsend, you have to drive thru the mountain to get to Gat, and that will be a problem in the winter.

After looking at map ... If I had to work in Gat I would either look at Pittman Center or Wears Valley to live. There are backroads from 321 into Gat but remember in the winter these could get rough, however traffic isn't as bad then. Just try not to live on a steep hill!

Do you have a good job already lined up in Gatlinburg?

In Cocke County? Yikes!

Y'all need to be careful regarding the schools in these rural communities! klunick, I've discussed this in another thread with you. Your kids are in one of the top schools in your state. If you moved to most rural counties in Tenn. it is not going to be the same by a mile. One of the biggest things I had to learn by moving from the Northeast to the South was that things I took for granted will not be the same. Once again, I wouldn't trade living in Knoxville for moving back up north, or even back to Florida, but choosing a good community for schools is ESSENTIAL. And Cocke County is so far out of your wheel house that it isn't even in the same ocean, let alone the same boat. In fact, Cocke County is different than most counties in the state. Do a search on this forum to see.

Didn't say I was interested in those houses, just that there were some nice ones.

I'm looking into Seymour a bit more. It seems now my parents aren't set specifically on Gatlinburg, but the general stretch of Gatlinburg, PF and Sevierville. It seems Seymour would be a real easy drive to Sevierville, plus easy access to Knoxville for more things to do.
