Love it
You know the area I lived in NY was awful for allergies. I used to look like I was going on vacation I had so many bags under my eyes. Moving here I have had a touch of allergies but nothing like I had in NY. I am bag free( wouldn't it be nice if all baggage went away so easily?) and only took one allergy pill this year.

Unhappy Feel better, gailli; save some $$. Sorry, painter, about the sale.

gailli-I hope you are up and around today and feeling better too.
Gailli, I hope the doctor's visit fixes you right up. It sounds like maybe you don't need it, unless you're determined to put his kids through Harvard!

The painter, I completely forgot about that - not about our lot, but that you were in the foray. I think that you probably joined just as all of that was unraveling.

Sad, but true. We may be in a position where we MUST buy existing because we are continuing to pay a mortgage that we thought would be long gone at this point. But, that's how it goes.

Maybe we'll help some other poor E. TN family who can't sell their perfectly nice house to move on themselves. A little paint, a change of appliances, new floors, windows,... WHOA! Maybe some paint will do it!

I am sorry that you lost your buyer. It is disheartening when you have your life all planned out - especially the tail end of it - and it all comes apart in the wink of an eye. Although, Hik and GBH have been winking their eyes for so long that it looks like they have a tic!! This should not have been a surprise!

I think sometimes we believe we are insulated from all of the bad things happening around us. There are no fairies with magic dust to sprinkle on our houses to make them disappear leaving a pile of money in their place. I hate to break it to anyone.

I do hope, painter, that you get another buyer real soon. A 45 day lapse between showings is discouraging. Think of how many times you have scoured your commode needlessly.

(Are you an artiste painter or a house-type painter? Decorative painting? Murals? No advertising, but just out of curiosity.)

(Nice to see you out and about, Pam!)

gemkeeper-been a house painter for 30 some yrs, use to do mural type stuff but no more, I do some faux stuff once in awile, been doing consulting ect. WHEN I get back to TN I don't know what I will be doing, maybe some more painting who knows. Wanting to open up a small shop for decorating, focusing on more frugal clients, not the high end homes, I've had my fill of those the past 7 yrs..lol Existing homes are fun, they bring out your imagination, they have more personality and alot are better built. I love the old homes and their wrinkles, for which we share!!

Oh, wow. Can you be my new best friend?

I've never owned a home and I have no idea what I am doing.

I rented a beautiful 200-year-old Colonial in the northeast about 20 years ago. That was easy to decorate.

But I am buying a ranch. I have no idea what to do with it.

I guess anything.

GEM: I'm telling you, it's going to happen. You are in a much better position than most, so capitalize on it. Deals are happening.

I must share! Once again, I had to sign more papers, today, after the crazy mortgage broker gave up the appraisal after being threatened with legal action.

Anywho, my agent says that I have made the second best deal that she has ever seen.

So my point is, you may come out low on the sell, but you will also come out low on the buy. Or build!

Hik---One can never have to many friends!!! I hope you have many many yrs of good memories in your new home. Besure to take the before photos and follow with progress made photos. I have bought some pretty sorry looking places over the yrs, and some time warped but they all bring back memories and some laughs from my kids now that they are grown.

Hiknapster, it is a lot of fun to take the before and after photos. Inside and out!

And, of course, over the years you can do that many times. Take some photos with Tinman's beautiful sofa in your new living room - and then, 2 weeks from now, take a picture of Tinman's beautiful sofa sitting on your curb!

The painter, I am so glad I now know a painter! Over the years, DH has always done most of our painting when needed. But, since he hung out his "retired" sign, he wants to throw away the ladder, the brushes, the compound miter saw, the tape measure!!! Not even over my cold, cold heart!!

I used to do some decorating work. It is brutal working for other people. I used to wallpaper and make window treatments. It made me a wreck. I was always so worried that it would not satisfy the person who I was doing the job for.

It turns out that most people don't have a clue if you did a good job, an okay job or the worse job in town!

I hand it to anyone who uses their craft to make a living. It is hard work and some clients can be pretty unappreciative of how much of yourself goes into the job.

I hope everything works out, painter.

HIK, you are so encouraging. I have been trying to convince DH of the same thing. I think he finally believes me now about the poor housing market and is now afraid to do anything at either end!

By summer's end, there will be a plan. I am proceeding. I know how to use my crafty female wiles!

Heyyyyyyyyy! Betcha thought I'd drop off the face of the earth. Almost.
To bring you up to date, we aren't going to be moving to TN after all. Hubby applied at various dealerships that advertised but only heard from one, and that was to say if he was in the area at a later date to stop by and apply again.
A couple of days later, we posted his resume on monster dot com. The very next morning, he received a telephone call from a gentleman in Albuquerque, NM. Well, this was just the beginning. To make a long story short, he starts his job in NM on July 14. We will be flying out there either July 7 or 8. They are moving us out and flying us out also.
Its a shock to most, but to us, it was karma, fate or something akin. About 18-20 yrs. ago, we had discussed moving to Arizona, but put it on the back burner. Then he gets this job offer. This past Sat. we were cleaning out some old boxes in the way back of the barn. He puts one box in the truck to haul to the dump and out falls an old dusty issue of National Geographic magazine. It lands right on his feet, right side up. Its an issue all about the American Southwest, focusing on NM and AZ. So, this move was meant to be.
We will come to Tenn. again, as visitors. In the long run, going to the SW is probably THE best for my health. I'll drop in now and then to say Hi to all.
Hik, Congrats on your new home. I'm very happy for you.
Hugs to all,
Alison

Wow, AlisonL! What a nice surprise. We will all be sorry that you won't be a neighbor in TN, but very happy that you found the second best spot to be. Just kidding, of course.

We all have a special place and sometimes circumstances have a way of working themselves into our lives that affords us a blessing that we just never expected. It sounds like this is one of those situations.

I love the story of removing the old box. What a lovely memory to carry with you. A gentle reminder that some things are out of our control and in the hands of One who knows what is best for us.

Please do drop in often and keep us up-to-date on a new life in NM - a beautiful, cultural spot in its own right. Be sure to catch the Albuquerque Balloon Event! It is a wonder to see!

All the best to you and your family!!
