I am looking to get out of the contract world and go to prepaid. I've always used AT&T or Sprint but have heard great things about Verizon in the area. 99% of my usage would be Knoxville over to Morristown and down to Gatlinburg. My fiance's Dad has a company phone with Verizon and travels all over Tennessee and says he has a lot more dropped calls than he did when they were on AT&T. BUT they also went from smartphones with AT&T to junky flip phones on Verizon so that may have something to do with it?

Out of all the prepaid service options which could you recommend in the area? So far Page Plus looks really good. It runs on the Verizon network solely and for $30 a mo you get quite a bit for the $$ if you are a light to moderate user which we are.

Thanks for the help!

I have Walmarts 20 dollar basic phone and buy the pre paid card. My service is fine wherever I've used it. Knoxville right on up to NY state, it works fine.

I use net10 and its been decent. Far less aggravating than the monthly plans. You could start with a cheap "dumb phone" and see how the service coverage works for you.

I use Virgin Mobile for myself and my daughter and I am very satisfied. No dropped calls, ever. We've used the service for almost two years.

I second that on Virgin Mobile. I've had their service for about 10 years. I've only changed my number once, when we moved from Ohio to here. I just recently bought my very first smartphone, it's been an adjustment to say the least, but I like it.

I get unlimited web, data and text, with 300 talk minutes, for $35 a month. Not too shabby for what I have.

My husband has a flip phone (which he really likes and isn't all up on having a smartphone) and we pay $30 for his phone, which has the same as above but it's not a smartphone, and he gets 1500 minutes. He can surf the web on his phone but the screen is so tiny, it's not worth the trouble. LOL!

I've never had any problem with the service here; my phone works just fine driving from here to Ohio, or to Florida.

I love Virgin, too, Mrs. Mopar!

My daughter and I have Droids. I pay 55 for her for unlimited talk, text, data and 45 for myself for unlimited everything, too, except talk.

It looks like(judging from coverage map) Virgin is great in Knox but once you get over in Hamblen County there are a lot of no coverage areas. Any experiences?

I had VM , but their data speed is pretty bad. I never could get over 125kbs on a Moto Triumph. If data is not important VM is a good deal. I needed better data speeds and mobile hot spot. Went with T-Mobile and a Samsung SIII. I'm not a big talker and went with the $30 100min talk/unlimited text/5Gig 4G data plan (no longer available I think). Add $15 for mobile hotspot. If I get near 100 min talk I just add $10 to the account (1/4 of the time) .
