Way to go Knoxville! There's a nice article and a good picture of Tupelo Honey Cafe in the August 2013 issue of Southern Living Magazine. In addition to THC they mention Coffee & Chocolate, The Oliver Hotel, Reruns Boutique and Rala. This is some great exposure!

We've had a lot more than that, lately. Unfortunately, in my opinion.

Too much exposure to national publications like that could make us the next Asheville. That North Carolina city is now expensive to live in and its infested with hippies and hipster types. I hope that does not happen to Knoxville.

This is great news! Tourism dollars are welcome and needed for downtown.

Actually Knoxville came a long way since World War II. The following is taken from the Wiki on Knoxville. One I call interesting but useless fact and the next one is how bad the reputation of Knoxville used to be. Of course since then it has gone uphill big time

"In 1948, the soft drink Mountain Dew was first marketed in Knoxville, originally designed as a mixer for whiskey.[46] Around the same time, John Gunther dubbed Knoxville the "ugliest city" in America in his best-selling book Inside U.S.A. Gunther's description jolted the city into enacting a series of beautification measures that helped improve the appearance of the Downtown area"

Caroline McKenzie (the girl that did the article) was from the Knoxville area. She must be longing to get back to home? This was a great read!

I had to look up where Union Avenue is located. It was fun to use Google Maps until I got dizzy from watching!

This is awesome. Gay Street was named one of America's 10 Great streets in 2012 by the American Planning Association. A very high honor in planning circles. Union is moving up there with a ton of good development in the past year. If you think about it,the whole strip next to Market Square with Casual Pint, Tupelo Honey, Urban Outfitters and some others all opened up in the past 12 months. The prosperous parts of downtown are really starting to fill in with increasing choices and amenities. Testament to many creative minds downtown
