We may be moving to the Middlebrook Pike Area, not too far from the petroleum terminals/companies. What concerns should we have about this? I just don't know if we should keep looking or if it should be safe to live close to those kinds of places. Thank you in advance.

Further west is best, try to stick west of Weisgarber. Schools are good there, decent neighborhoods. My daughter attends school there.

I'll second what Hik said. Of course a lot depends on budget and needs/wants.

The property is GREAT budget wise, we could get more home for the money with a lower property cost. I am just concerned about being close to something like that...or am I being paranoid?? We also have small children which makes me think we need to consider looking farther out because of schools. Good things to think about, we will probably continue searching. Thank you for your replies, it definitely helps to have outside influence and advice.

Excuse me, but I'm confused. You already have a property picked out? I thought you were asking about the area, in general. So what street is it on? I'm trying to decipher if this is a decent area or not. Schools? What schools?

It is just one we came across and were wondering if we should consider. We have the money, that's why I said we may be moving there (it was a strong possibility). The schools are Pond Gap Elem, NorthWest Middle, and West High. From what I can find online, I don't really want our children in those schools.

Sounds like that is a bad neighborhood and a better reason not to live there than being near a storage tank. If you have issues with that, are you going to be concerned about being near Oak Ridge?

We will be close to it for the near future, concerns or not. I just have to make the best of it.

Is being near the tanks THAT bad? I guess it would depend if you were right next to them or if theyre just nearby. If the house is really good and its a right price.

West High is good from what I've read on this forum. Also, Pond Gap has one of the, if not the most, diverse classes in the city. That may be a positive thing depending on your viewpoint.

West, yes. Northwest Middle, heck no. And Pond Gap. That means the house is in a really bad area. That's someone hoping the really good deal wasn't in the ghetto and it is.
