What a nice side trip this evening.
Thanks, JMT, and as always, LauraC. I had missed the original posting of LauraC's photos of Oak Ridge and they are a wonderful travelog of the area. Very nicely done, LauraC!
We are so lucky to have talented photo-journalists like you in our midst. I had been to Oak Ridge several years ago, but had forgotten just how beautiful the area is. Thanks for the lovely reminder.

In preparation for the move into a new $549 million, high-security storage facility, workers at the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant are packaging tons of highly enriched uranium into new storage containers.
Each can holds a maximum of 44 pounds of uranium. That means workers have loaded up to 52,800 pounds of enriched uranium so far, although Y-12 officials won't confirm specific amounts. The actual inventory of U-235 stored at the Oak Ridge facility is classified.
Hight said he couldn't discuss details of how the uranium will be transported from the current storage facilities at Y-12 to the HEUMF except to say that it will be done in a safe and secure fashion.

Thank you, too, Hik, for the lovely reminder. I guess we have to consider if the bad outweighs the bad, right? It is still pretty country (except beyond the fences and gates).
My hubby won't go within 20 miles, but me...?

By the way guys, guess what? I just got my newspaper. The Oak Ridge Observer (November 29 issue) published one of my photos on its front page (Fall Colors on Fire Thread, page 7, first photo) this week. (This is the free weekly newspaper in Oak Ridge.
