Lots of neighborhoods? Do you mean like the Stephen King ones I look at everyday: 4000 + sq ft home on 1/3 of an acre, or less?

Too funny!!! Never thought of the concept in those terms, but very, very fitting. Love it. May borrow that one.

There are no Costcos coming to knoxville in 2008, my husband gets emails periodically and knoxville wasn't on the list. He told me Costco has plans to double the amount of Costcos as quickly as they can. I called up headquarters in WA, the phone # is on their website, and they asked me if I'd like to put in a request, so I did. So, if everyone that likes Costco there puts in a request, also, perhaps, they will build one there. They just opened one in Nashville this year, so they must be looking at TN.

Could someone please answer my question about if people dress more modestly there because they truly love God and respect marriages and families. Or maybe I should just look in the yellow pages at how many plastic surgeons there are. Ha Ha. It takes up half of the yellow pages here in Las Vegas. Just Kidding, it just seems that way to me.

Costco has been in Tennessee for years. They opened two stores in Memphis about 7-8 years ago and now have two stores in the Nashville area, too.

People do dress pretty modestly here. I have a friend who teaches at Florida State and said students there routinely go to class in bathing suits. That is certainly not the case here, even in the middle of summer.

Default Thanks for the reply JMT

I meant no new costco's in Tennessee in 2008. Hopefully, they will open one in 2009 because I'm praying the Lord will get us out of here. Even though we are considered in the boonies, their is still so many thieves at Costco. It is unbelievable that someone would use a gun to get out the door for some electronic thing just to find out they stole an empty box.

I googled sermons online fundamental and I've been listening to Pastor Clarence Sexton from Temple Baptist ever since (4 years now) I grew up in San Diego and lived there until 2 years ago. My husband's job brought us to Las Vegas, and if you knew me very well, you'd know I don't belong here. I won't go into how obviously wicked it is here and I have never and will never go to the strip for anything whatsover. Just what I've heard is disgusting and grevious to my soul; also very sad.

My husband works for Costco and we moved to the far most north part of the city. So, we really don't feel the effects of this place. We rarely drive more than 5 miles and just stay up on this side of the city. It's rather boring here and because I won't go into a casino, there is nothing for children to do here outside of some of the attractions at the casinos. They put bowling alleys, imax movies, zoos, aquariums, kid's rides, all in the casinos. But I will not be manipulated by their tactics and allow my three sons to be part of that. Anyway, I'm hoping Costco will open in knoxville in a few years and my husband has such a good work ethic and since he is one of the best managers there maybe we can move there. My question is, Is Powell a nice godly place to live? Here, even in the north part, women dress or should I say undress just to go shopping. Plastic surgery is very common, to say it nicely. I just want my sons to live where nice godly women abound, is that too much to ask? I want to take them to the zoo without going into a casino, etc. What is the spiritual temperature there? Is it all like Temple Baptist Church, which seems like a glimpse of heaven to me.

The good things about Las vegas is nothing, weather wise, happens here. It's not too cold here in the winter. It's hot in summer, but summer nights are nice and no humidity. No bugs or mice or fleas. We do have black widow spiders and crickets, though. No Fires. No Tornadoes. No Hurricanes. No Earthquakes, and No Rain, which is sad. Could someone please comment on weather the roads get icy and how cold does it get in winter below 30 degrees. How bad are the mosquitos in summer. thanks so much for your replies.
Check out Word of Life church in St. Joseph, MO...I'd be interested in what you think.

I can't tell you about the spiritual climate. Everyone here seems pretty nice for the most part...and genuine. They don't seem to judge others for what they choose to/not to do. I admire that in people. Live and let live I say.

Granted, I have not been to this church here, but at first glance, it reminded me a lot of Word of Life with the "complex", etc...

World of Life and "Pastor Brian" are certainly interesting...I moved here from St. Joseph.

I should have responded earlier, needrain, but I've had "issues."

Anyway, Powell is not perfect, and I have never been to Vegas, but I would guess that it would be much better than what you are dealing with.

The church you speak of, I do believe, is associated with Crown College. By what you have posted, I think that is the place.

I went through training with a Crown College graduate. He is studying to be a pastor. He is a wonderful young man. Always wears a tie and is probably the most intelligent person I have ever met.

Even if I have this church mixed up, I can tell you that there are tons of Baptist churches around here and very wonderful people. Like JMT said, most people are very conservatively dressed.

I think you would like it here, very much.

Just know that I am not a Christian. I have no idea what I am. But it is a very safe place to raise our daughter, and I don't think I could survive in Vegas. Florida just about killed me, as it is.

Please come and check it out.

And it was wonderful how you tried to help us out with Costco!

Powell is a nice area and a suburb of Knoxville. It's roughly located along the west side of Interstate 75 as it heads north of Knoxville.

An equally nice and very similiar area on the east side of I-75 is Halls. Most all the outlying county would be a good choice to live in as would most parts of the city.

Lots of people think that by living outside the Knoxville City Limits you save money on taxes but up to about the $200,000 price range it's about a wash.

Here's the differences:

If you live in Knox County only there is no public fire department so you have to pay a fee to belong to the private one, Rural Metro for around $300 a year.

There is no trash pickup unless you subscribe to a private trash service for another 300 bucks or so a year.

And because the City of Knoxville's fire department has a much higher rating than Rural Metro, homeowner's insurance is more expensive in the county than in the city.

We just bought a new house in the city this year for about $25,000 more than we sold our previous one in the county and our homeowner's insurance was about half what it was before.

Plus the city provides additional services the county does not such as curbside leaf pickup, handy at this time of year, and brush pickup, haul away used appliances, etc.

I'm glad you mentioned that. It's very true. Knoxville's city property taxes aren't that high. When I moved from rural East Knox County to my house in North Hills, even though it's about $20k more than I spent on the old house, my monthly payments are about the same because of the cheaper insurance, not to mention the savings in gas because I'm only 5 miles from work instead of 25 miles.

I've noticed that a lot of these people who say they want to live in the "country" end up living in a housing development out in the county that's just as dense as some inner-city neighborhoods.
