I'm a newb, but it sounds like Farragut would be right up your alley.

I like our location, but I guess it's not real popular. Not sure on the schools as we don't have kids, but I've always believed schools are what the participants make of them, not the other way around.

I would like to think our area is "up and coming" since there's so much development going on out this way, but who knows. I know I love the location and the fact I don't have to deal with W. Knoxville traffic.

Look in the West Hills neighborhood. An early 1960s suburb with big sprawling ranchers on 1/2 acre lots. Lots of schools and parks around, huge YMCA within walking distance, close to shopping. Some of the older homes that were bought new and the people are now aging and selling can be bought cheap. They will need some updating and remodeling but were probably well kept.
Look in zip code 37909

Excuse me, but what the heck does "up and coming," spelled correctly, mean?

hiknapster,

Up and coming means ...where are all the people are starting to move to that are new developments and new stores are being built. And of course has good schools. Where the population is starting to grow.

Can someone please explain what exactly entails a "good school".

I see it brought up all the time, but it seems like as long as the kid puts in the effort, the school shouldn't matter.

I agree with your statement to a point. That child does need the tools such as, good teachers, updated books, safe facility and such to be able for that effort to come to fruition. I believe that is what is meant by "good schools".

Ok...I just was wondering because everyone speaks about how wonderful the schools are in W. Knoxville, but then I figure Halls and Gibbs, etc...are all "Knox Co. Schools" so I'm assuming they all have pretty much the same curriculum. Gibbs and Halls don't exactly strike me as bad areas, etc...so I just wondered.

Of course, I really don't know how the school systems here work...could be different for different schools within the system for all I know.

Farragut certainly appears to have money.

If we are here in 15-20 years or so, my guess is our kids would go to Knoxville Catholic, but who knows.
