Default We are here finally! :)

LOL! We just got here 4 weeks ago. We haven't met that many people yet, but I get a really good feeling here. I feel very optimistic. I am from N. AL & my husband from N. GA. When he was offered the transfer here we jumped on it. We are both closer to our families plus FL didn't have the feeling of home that TN has. We are in the boonies out in Oak Ridge right now. We will be moving closer in in a couple weeks........all that to say I'm gonna love my neighbors too!!! LOL

Wink Welcome to E TN, Monicaabc, from a Soon-to-be.

I certainly do remember you, Monicaabc, and am so glad you made it! It will be great to hear from you on the forum about your transition.

I think I remember you saying that you were buying in Farragut. Is that where you will be hanging your hat?

I sure hope you enjoy your new home. Sounds like you are well on your way to being a great new neighbor to some folks.

YES! We made it finally! Actually the deal in Farragut fell through but was auctioned off & the investors wound up selling to us at a great price. When we moved, we didn't expect to get the house. We were just gonna hang out here until April or so, BUT things worked out differently & we close Friday! We have been traveling to Clayton every weekend to remodel our house there. We went on the dragon tail that everyone was talking about on here. OMG it was horrible, I had to fight nausea the entire time!
So far my observations of k'ville............auto insurance is MUCH less expensive than FL. Homeowners insurance MUCH less that FL. Sales tax here hmmmm I almost choked the first time I bought groceries. FL doesn't tax food items. 9.25 compared to 0 on groceries. Regular sales tax in Santa Rosa was 6.5. I also thought it was cool that all utilities come from the same place. One stop shop for electric, water, gas. Cable, phone etc is less here also. I-40 is CRAZY. Oak Ridge, Powell, Maryville are all great towns but too far from the hub for my taste. That's all for now. As I experience more I'll post. It may help some others who are looking.
It's good to see all you guys again!

I am so happy for you! I also agree with your assessment of our fair city. I can't wait to read future posts from you as you get out and explore this beautiful part of the country.

Oh, and that parable you cited earlier is PERFECT!!! Our happiness truly is based on our own attitudes. If we rely on others to make us happy, we're in for a long, sad life.

Welcome to Tennessee!

Wink Keep us posted, even with the decorating fun.

Monicaabc, I am so happy to hear that the house deal came through for you. Sometimes, if we are patient, good things sneak up on us and tap us on the shoulder. This one worked out great for you.

Your comment about the Tail of the Dragon struck me as so funny. We take that route every time we drive up to E TN to scout things out.

Our last trip was a couple of days after Thanksgiving. My husband couldn't believe that I napped in the car for most of the drive from Maryville to inside NC! I guess the Tail doesn't intimidate me any longer.

Congrats! How wonderful that things are going smoothly for you!

I'd like to hear about your experience with Clayton; are you going modular?

Clayton is my husband's home town. We have a house downtown. We have been renting it out for the past few years. The renters weren't very good so there were lots of repairs to make + the house is very old. ANYWAY since we are so close we will be going there often, so we're fixing it up to stay in & maybe to rent out from time to time to tourist.
