For crying out loud. There are bad officers because they are human - just like other humans. They should be held to a higher standard, but let's not lump all deputies / officers into one category. My father served 30 years in our large department. My husband has had a career that spans 27 years in Emergency Services of all divisions, including time as an instuctor at the FBI Academy in Quantico. I by no means meant to start a cops-are-bad theme on this thread. By and large they are wonderful and put their lives on the line everyday when they put on that badge and climb in that car. My point was simply if you come from a large progressive agency you may not be so happy in a small department. I'd look into larger agencies. And for the love of Jiminy Cricket, please don't jump to conclusions when you heard stuff on the radio or in the paper about law enforcement. It's very widely acceptable for people to make false allegations about officers / deputies and the media just eats it up and blows it out of proportion. If I'm not personally involved with it, I take it was a huge hunk of salt. The time I spent in law enforcement I was amazed at how many times I'd hear a story on the news or radio or read in the paper and the story they had wasn't even close to reality.

Yeah you are right, this post is getting offtopic.... But wait, you're not the original poster, you are one of them that complained about corrupt police departments. I am confused!

I agree that it has gone offtopic. I just wanted to know if anyone had advice on which department to apply for Knoxville, Sevierville, etc.. I was thinking of Knoxville because they said that you don't have to live in city limits to work there. I was wanting to live in one of the surrounding counties. I have not quite decided on which county. I want a hobby farm so it will be a county that I can get a good deal on land.

I also work in Law enforcement. I think people judge officers by only bad ones.
There are alot of good officers out there that outweigh the bad ones.
Its a hard job, with little pay.
