This is a very green team...but there is a lot to hope for the future -- even this season. It gives our young boys some experience playing in a hostile environment on a big stage. That could prove valuable later in the season.

There's a lot of work left to do...lots of kinks to work out (including with some play calling)...but I definitely see this team moving in the right direction.
They have a lot of goods athletes, but can't compete with the Oklahomas yet. I think we got screwed on the fumble call where it came out of the side of the OK player's arm, but they ruled him down. OK punched it in and I think that kind of took the wind out of us.

I still think we're good enough to beat those we should beat (Chatt, KY, Vandy) and can probably get one from someone else to get us to a bowl, and maybe one additional win.

Good performance through three quarters, but not good enough. I don't think we'll beat KY now, and I certainly don't think we have the talent to go bowling. Five wins max, with four (Chatt, Vandy) being most likely. If we can't go bowling, I think Jones seat is hot. At the end of the day, we're still a bad football team, and while it looks like we're improving, that's not showing up in the W-L column.

Way too early yo say the seat is hot. With a capable QB, UT would be a decent team. Worley plays hard, but he lacks good arm strength, and really doesn't fit the mould for that offense (not a great runner). The O line is just plain young. Most other positions have a major freshman presence. This is year two. Let Butch get a senior class of HIS recruits to graduate.

The SEC East is schizo. I wouldn't rule any of those games out. This team is young and will improve with each bit of experience.

On 2 different occassions on 3rd and short, false start calls on offense. What if, those penalties didn't happen, 1st downs had been made and the offense was able to have gotten in a rythmn. Young, nervous offensive linemen, with the weight of high expectations, make those mistakes. It's all part of growing pains.

I think Butch Jones is as refreshing as a morning swim in Norris Lake, and he's done a good job of getting the team better. Brick by brick he is building.

But it would have been a different game without the sacking of their QB. Right now, the Vols have the most sacks allowed in the SEC, 18 in five games.

But Butch isn't going anywhere just yet. As NashVols said, let's wait until his recruits become seniors. He started with less than nothing and he's rallied. He's also brought that fans and team together in remarkable fashion.

And that leads me to my biggest gripe today. Shame on the fans that chanted F You at the Gators. It's great to be enthusiastic, but we're known as one of the nicest college ball towns in the country. One of our most touching traditions is when The Pride of the Southland Band stands in front of the opposing team's fans and plays their fight song as a big Rocky Top welcome. I hope we don't forget who we are now.

I know this is true, but its still hard to watch what happened today and not be frustrated.

We chanted that to Bama in '06, but they deserved it.

Its been far to long since this team has been credible. I KNOW...Same at Miami. At least the Canes have a great baseball program.

As we said at the top of the thread it is a rebuilding year. I think that there is enough there to continue to land some good recruits which is what is needed.

I appreciated Aaron and Todd's contributions yesterday and applaud those young men for a fine game. I am most worried about the offense. One of the things that really troubled me is that we could call the plays each possession ahead of time here at home and we were always correct. It was the same progression each time. They read us like a dime store romance novel. They really have to be able to do more offensively and the offensive coach has to get this together. To not cross the goal line at all yesterday with what he had before him was disappointing.

It was great to see Checker Neyland; what an amazing thing to pull off in a week! The crowd was loud and quiet at appropriate times. It's starting to get fun to be a fan again. It's the first year I haven't had season tickets in years and I am sad about it. I'm leaving my Vol garden flag out despite another loss. I ordered my fur kids and fur grandkids some new Vols bandanas and clothes yesterday evening.

I think CBJ is a hell of a guy and a great motivator, but we just don't have the talent to really compete and I'm not convinced at all he can get UT back to a winning program after watching us squander a game we dominated yesterday.

We have virtually no running game to speak of - 112th overall. The reason the plays are so predictable is because we're one dimensional. Worley is a decent QB and has some catching weapons, but the offensive line is young and bad, and he doesn't get much time or protection. Once Worley graduates, we're back to square one on QB, as neither Peterman nor Dobbs are SEC level QBs, and we'll have to try and get a good freshman. Our rush defense is also highly suspect.

After Chattanooga, we go to Ole Miss, have Alabama at home, go to South Carolina, and have Kentucky and Missouri at home. All five of those games are likely losses. If we steal one and beat Chatt/Vandy, we go 5-7, same as last year. If we lose all five, we go 4-8, worse than last year. Right now, we're stuck at the bottom of the east with Vandy, and Vandy looks to be our best shot for a conference win. I bet we do worse in conference play than last year.

When you look at OTHER SEC teams that are rebuilding/are rebuilt, it's obvious UT is still behind. Kentucky seems to have turned a corner, and could be undefeated. Miss and Miss State are clearly far better than in years past. LSU and South Carolina seem to be struggling a bit, but both are better than TN. The only team that is clearly worse than us is Vandy, who had to replace a very capable HC who turned that program around. At best, I think we do 5-7, just like in the past two years.

That's not improvement, that's more of the same.
