Hi all, we are relocating from Nashville (Franklin) to Knoxville because of a job change. We are a couple in our 50's with grown children (not at home) and we both work. My husband will be working downtown and I work from home. We are fairly active and want to be near green spaces for hiking/walking, enjoy dining out and taking advantage of local cultural activities, and are pretty liberal overall. We would prefer a 'walking' neighborhood with interesting neighbors. We do not want a fixer upper - new construction is ok or we would be open to homes that have been renovated. We have two geriatric dogs so urban condos are probably not a possibility at this point. We're looking in the 400k - $500k range. We know very little about Knoxville and having loved nashville for many years, I do not know where to start. If you have advice on neighborhoods, that would be great!

My suggestion would be to connect with a Realtor.

A realtor will look at your budget and guide you towards Sequoyah Hills to maximize their commission. I think you might be happy in the Island Home Park neighborhood because it is close to a greenway and a wonderful nature park. Prices are less expensive and you will have interesting, liberal neighbors. It is close to downtown for dining and cultural activities.

Creeksitter makes it sound like you can't trust Realtors to look out for your interests. I can assure you there are lots of ethical Realtors in Knoxville that will listen to your needs and find something that fits them.

Actually, Sequoyah Hills sounds like it might be on your list to look at.
