Knoxville is still my top pick for retirement. But, having lived in Minnesota most of my life, I'm not positive I could handle the humidity in th summer. What is the absolute worst month to come there & experience the high humidity? Being on a fixed income, I will have to decide on one city only.

I did have a hard time when I visited my brother in southern Illinois 2 years ago but I just stayed indoors or in the shade. I'm sure I would have adjusted eventually, but I need to be by water and there wasn't much there.

There's no sense coming in the winter or spring as that would be a walk in the park. I keep your temperature on my desktop & sometimes I am so envious.

I will not be moving this next year. I'm just not going to be ready. I'm slowly recovering from back surgery but it is really slow. I still need a cane & I'm pretty slow, but oh well, at least I can walk now. Better than I was, that's for sure.

July or August will give you a good idea of hot & sticky KNoxville.

Okay. It's August here, but only for a week or so. Last summer was so bad I wore sweatshirts because it would just not warm up.

We get into the 90s here. Sometimes just for a few days, sometimes for a couple weeks. You have to deal with it like they do in FL - just stay in air conditioning. But it sounds like you'll have a problem with the 80s also, and that's the normal temperature for June, July and Aug, sometimes even in May and Sept. I think only on cloudy days it gets in the 70s. So living near water would be a good idea.

I agree, nj. It's on my list of musts. I tried to live away from water once & did not do well. Probably because Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes & some folks think they haven't counted them all.

Btw, low 90's don't bother me. It's when it gets into high 90's or 100's that I run into trouble.

I can detect maybe a 2-3 degree reduction in temps near the shore of the TN river or other lakes. So that's not the answer. The only reliable relief in the summer is to head for higher elevations above 4000' or to sit directly by a stream that feeds out of the mountains.

But if you can stand low 90s you'll be fine.

The times we had excessive heat I just wore tee shirts & shorts & stayed in front of a fan. Sometimes I would put a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan & have that blow on me. It worked.
