Cool Cop. ( Knox County Sherrif Kudos )
Just about every time I read a post about a cop on an online board, it's some ignorant tool ranting about how cops stink 'cause the poster got caught breaking the law. Well, this is NOT that kind of post.
This morning I was driving through Knox county, and while I won't ADMIT I was doing anything wrong here, I got stopped by an officer. In what I imagine could have easily enough been time to write two tickets for the POSSIBLE infractions he could have written me up for, he only wrote out a warning for one and let me on my way.
Now A few things were in my favor from the get go as there was only subjective data on what I might have been doing wrong. I have been in that situation before, and lesser cops still wrote tickets that later went to defeat in court. That coupled with the fact I was driving to/from work, had all my proper paperwork, and I spoke to him in a respectful positive manner certainly contributed to my getting a warning instead of a ticket.
Either way though I did want to take time out and let everyone know that occasionally you can be reasonable with a cop and they will return the favor. I am thankfull that the officer in question returned the favor.
No, I will NOT name the officer as I don't want anyone here to say 'well you gave so and so a break'.

I totally agree. I am 39, lived in Knox all my life, and I would say KCSD is the best police department around. Fortunately, I've not had to deal much with police, but all my experience with KCSD has been positive.
Much of the KCSD professionalism is due to the voting oversight (i.e. Sheriff is elected )

About a month ago we had an attempted break-in. The burglars were morons. They kicked the door, which jammed the door knob, so they took off, probably because they set off our dog.
Anyway, a Knoxville city cop was there in record time. He was kind, professional, etc. A little bit later the crime scene unit showed up to dust for prints. They have since assigned the case to a detective.
Good golly, we didn't even have anything taken! If that was Florida the cops would have interrogated us just to teach us a lesson not to call the cops. No kidding.
Anyway, the whole thing set off a string of VERY bad luck for us and mentally it was pretty tough to deal with. However, knowing that we have such professional police has really made me feel better and proud to live in this area.

Oh my gosh I'm so sorry to hear that someone tried to break in to your house!!! I'm glad everyone's ok and that nothing was taken. I hope the police catch the slimebag(s) who did it.

KCSD cuts you much more slack than KPD. I should know. Been to driving school 3 times. When you're on the road 50+ hrs. a week, your probability increases quite a bit.

We had an incident with our neighbors about a month ago and the police officers that hand;ed it were fantastic (there were 2)
Apparently, our neighbor is a drunk and she backed her van out of their yard (yes, she drove through her own yard!) and into my best friend's car and then never bothered to say anything. found out she was most likely drunk when she left and she had gone to the liquor store to get more alcohol. Scary part is that she is a SCHOOL TEACHER!!
sorry about my little rant there, but regardless, the officers saw right through the junk and got everything taken care of for us-they were friendly, helpful and I was thankful for their help.

Wow! You have an exciting neighborhood! Everyone's in a coma in mine.
The cops are very smart. Glad they took care of that, and thanks JMT. We were very lucky that nothing was taken. Although we do think they took our neighbor's chain saw. We were borrowing it.

LOL, love the coma remark.
I thought that Knox cops usually do give warnings, that's what someone said, but I don't know if they meant KPD or SD. Which dept usually does the pulling over?
Hubby got pulled over at 2 am recently coming home from work, in a zone without a SL sign so we were never sure when the speed changed. He just got a warning, cause he was respectful, in uniform, and not drunk.

Talk about cutting slack I remember, must have been 35 or 36 years ago James Brown was playing in Knoxville and the Sheriff (can't remember his name) came on stage and rounded up the band and drove them to the county line and told them not to come back. The two things they were doing wrong was they were black in the south and smoking pot and doing drugs. Those two things back then could have gotten him locked up for years but he was let off. Times have changed for the better and fortunately it is no longer a crime to be black in the south but it is good to see that the Knoxville Sheriffs department is still cutting people slack on occassion.
