I mean, this is rock and clay, they are used to slapping them up quick on sand. Any house that is built in less than 2 months can not be built with quality required for the long haul.
Could you give me any suggestions on places to live in or around Oak Ridge that will fit an active young family with small children?

THANKS!!

What Rarity Ridge and most other developments like it do is to appeal to those where the package - what others see - is the most important thing to them.

We don't feel that we have to, or want to, impress anyone. There is no more contentment and happiness inside of stucco walls with 4500 sf of luxury than there is in a 2 bedroom cabin.

There will be lots of folks to fill up those forever "empty" homes, but we won't see many of them here on the forum. They usually aren't concerned with what the local people are like, or how the libraries are, or how close they might be to Target and Home Depot.

Save your money, folks. It will keep our environment greener and full of trees, our roads will be passable, and we won't have to look at too many mega-malls every two miles.
Since we have 3 children (2 boys and 1 girl) we would need at least 3 bedrooms. I would like for them to each have their own room so that I can teach them to keep their own rooms clean and in order and establish consequences for not doing so...

We don't need 4500 sq ft, but we do need more than 2 bedrooms...

However, I do understand what you are referring to. We are VERY environmentally conscience and would build a home that is primarily solar. We want fruit trees and a small garden in our back yard. We want a yard big enough for our kids to play in and be safe...

THANKS!!!

Besides the bare land, anyone living there will be seeing and hearing construction equipment for many months to come!

As you can tell, we were totally unimpressed. And like LauraC said, anyone that wants to participate in activities in Oak Ridge, would spend most of their time on the road. Not to mention the fact that if you ran out of milk, it would take you about an hour to drive to the store, buy the milk and drive back home.......NO THANKS!!!

Just 75 more days till we can officially call Tennessee HOME!!!
beachbette,
What part of Tennessee are you moving to???

In fact, people in our community of about 250 homes are very active and interested in our town and county. For example, we conduct an annual United Way campaign that last (2007) year raised over $17,000 for the Monroe County UW, we teach pro bono an advanced placement math course at the local high school, we sponsor (and do the work) to keep a two mile stretch of roadside clear of garbage, we serve on the boards of and as volunteers for local charitiable organizations (eg: Boys and Girls Club, Red Cross), we sponsor a college scholarship at the local high school, we conduct an "Angel Tree" campaign each Christmas that last year provided Christmas to 103 children, 50-60 of us are Meals on Wheels drivers or preparers, we have a group that records books for the blind, we are represented on the local planning commission, we volunteer with habitates for Humanity, and, yes, virually the entire board of the Friends of the Library live in our community.

This is by no means a complete list, but I think it makes the point. Most of us were active volunteers before we moved to the Volunteer State, so it's natural we would continue to try to contribute to our new community.

Jeff
Jeff,
Which of the Rarity Communities do you live in???

THANKS!!
