Hi, I am single, 46, no family. I currently live in Staten Island, NY. It's a suburb of NYC. I hate living here despite growing up here; crowds, traffic, and cost of living are horrendous. Taxes and government interference by regulation is ridiculous.*

I am more of a country person who loves western culture , country music and small towns but I don't totally want to give up some city elements, mainly dining out and shopping. I have an extensive background in hotel and restaurant work.*

Politically, I am a conservative leaning Libertarian who likes being active in politics.
Is Knoxville a good fit for me?

No. You should move out west. Wyoming, Arizona, Montana, etc.
I thinking Oregon might be a good match.

Knoxville is not exactly the western culture and country music kind of town.
While this is Tennessee, we do have government, regulations, and some taxes. Indoor plumbing as well, (for the most part).
Knoxville is not really a "get active" in politics city either, unless you count the guy that was shouting stuff in Market Square last Saturday evening. To be fair, he was not limiting his discussion to politics, he also expounded a bit on the subject of love.

Nashville might fit the bill on some points.

You might be happy here, but I think the job market would be better in Nashville. This is a VERY Libertarian area with tons of restaurants. Hospitality industry is bigger in Sevier County, but the pay is slightly less than Knox County, and you're looking at a massive pay cut to begin with. Country music is huge here but Nashville has more of everything.

Sevier County is pretty conservative and it does have the dining and shopping - tourist area that caters to recreational shopping.

Come down and spend some time here. Make up your own mind about the fit.

Country music is huge here? Where? On the radio?

I recently had a forum member ask me where to go to listen to live country music, other than Cotton-Eyed Joe (which is full of college kids and not much else.) I was hard pressed to come up with anything.

Bear in mind, Americana/Folk such as WDVX is not country music.

Regarding Oregon, since when is that area conservative/libertarian?

I'd check out Nashville. Sevierville may have a lot of hospitality jobs but it's a Point Pleasant, New Jersey with a heck of a lot less to do. Very few decent dining choices and that is an understatement.

That is a good question. Poster pulling ideas out of a hat, I guess, even if they are way off the mark.
