I'll be traveling thru Knoxville next Weds (2/10) on my way from North Georgia to Pittsburgh. I'm trying to plan my departure time to miss heavy traffic if possible. Are there any times of the morning when I would encounter traffic on I-75N or I-40E in area?

If there is traffic and it's anything like most cities, it will probably be clear by 9am or so, right? I'm just under three hours away, so I hope to leave at 6:30am and pass thru Knoxville around 9:15-9:30am.

Any thoughts,suggestions or warnings?

Interestingly, Knoxville is the LARGEST city I will pass thru on the entire trip from the North Metro Atlanta area all the way to Pittsburgh!

There may still be some residual traffic at 915 in Knoxville. If you are leaving at 630 from Atlanta area then you may also want to concern yourself with Chattanooga as there is traffic issues in that area as well. Knoxville traffic can be bad if there is a wreck but if not you should not have a huge problem other than some occasional slowdowns.

Compared to Atlanta traffic you shouldn't have any problem.

I'm planning to take US-411 (which is a few miles from my house) all the way to Cleveland, TN then pick up I-75. It will bypass Chattanooga and Mapquest claims that it's also 18 minutes faster and 16 miles shorter.

6:30 is a little optimistic for me anyway, maybe I'll shoot for leaving home at 7am.

Thank God for that.....for your sake and mine!

I spent years commuting 62 miles one-way to work every day and, at best, it took about 3.5 hours per day. At least three or four days per month, on average, it would take upwards of five hours. Not a fun way to live and that's why I changed careers and work from home! =)

How can I bypass Chattanooga traffic ? My travel from AL is on 59 (which is fine), but I can't bear the thought of risking my life driving on interstate through Chattanooga again. I'm going to Pigeon forge. Thanks!

Noo... my recollection is a lot of traffic lights in Cleveland. I say go on up to Madisonville and take 68 to I-40.

As a side note, Cleveland and Athens are huge speed traps. DO NOT GO OVER SPEED LIMIT!.
