It's very liberal at the core of the city of Knoxville and a few other areas. The rest of us are sprinkled throughout the area.

Our mayor is one of the most liberal in the country; she cut her teeth working for the rights of migrant workers in Cesar Chavez's program. She saw to it that our fair city is one of the most energy efficient in the land. She's been appointed to task forces by Haslam and Obama.

By the way, the Radio Systems founder is a conservative. He helped host Jeb Bush when he came to town, last fall. He is now the Economic and Community Development Commissioner, appointed by Bill Haslam. He is a heck of a guy.

You see, here in Knoxville we tend to get along with each other.

A majority of the people here own guns, go to church, live in nice, humble homes. There are an awful lot of mansions here, too. Those people love their guns, too. In fact, the man that owns Pilot truck stop lives in a stunning home, is very generous philanthropist and raised his children to do the same. And they do. One of his sons is the governor of Tennessee.

Great response Hik

I'm leery of anyone that leaves what they have, goes to a place that's socially/politically different and sets out to change their new home via "taking over".

All for the good of the established locals, of course. Kinda like missionaries.

It always seems to be Northeast to South transplants for some strange reason

In many cases that can be attributed to "attitude."

Of course the part about taking over was a joke. You got that, right?

BTW, Randy Boyd describes himself as a moderate. I agree that he is an impressive person, indeed.

Really, I'm reacting to the hair-bristling responses I got. I swear, I'm a good person. If my using the term RACIST offends you, maybe you're a racist. If my using the term RELIGIOUS GUN NUT offends you, then maybe you're a religious gun nut and I don't want to be your neighbor! Fair?
How about non religious gun nut? Will you be my neighbor? Would you be mine? Could you be mine? I've lived in the same spot for 11 years and my neighbors have never one single time seen my guns.. Funny how that works' isn't it.

Default Check out Parkridge

Parkridge is a cool dog friendly, liberal, inner city neighborhood just east of downtown. I've called it home off and on for 4 years and we recently got some good national press as a place to relocate for retirement:

To the OP.

You come across very judgmental, pigeonholing people into stereotypes, and just having a chip on your shoulders towards people you know nothing about.

If you move here you will be surrounded by a lot of very conservative people, religious people, people who own guns and believe in the second amendment, and yes, some people who are proud to be a redneck. Of course you have no idea what a true redneck is, but we forgive you since you are an outsider and it is to be expected. These people will be nice, tolerant and would not think twice to help you in your time of need.

From reading your responses, Knoxville or the south doesn't seem like a good fit for you.

My suggestion, move to the Denver area.

If she lives in parkridge she won't be surrounded by conservative people or racist rednecks, but it is hard to escape religion.
