GettingOutOfFlorida is on a distinguished road
Smile Knoxville

My husband was born and raised in Knoxville and moved to Florida to be with me, however, after about 7 months he was saying he wanted to move back to Knoxville. Now, he's given me a lot of information on the city but I know that he is also quite biased. Can anyone from or around Knoxville tell me anything about the area, people, and culture? I have no choice but to move, and I'm not complaining (Florida is on my last nerve), but my marriage is at stake and I would like to know an unbiased opinion on the place I am going to be moving. Any thoughts, opinions, or random suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

I have posted some threads regarding Knoxville & the surrounding suburbs...OakRidge & Farragut (both nice suburbs) so you may want to search for those threads.
I too am possibly considering Knoxville or Ft Collins CO, or Austin TX...
So I only know what I have learned on the posts..but property tax is SUPER SUPER cheap, especially compared to FL!!! Isn't FL 3%? It is close to Gatlinburg & the Smokey MTNS, I think around 1.5 hrs...I can't offer much more help except to search the threads........good luck

I'm originally from Florida, too, and I am sooo glad my family got out of there (Tampa) and moved to Tennessee. I live in Knoxville and love it. It's close to the mountains, the traffic's not too bad, taxes are low, and the people are incredibly friendly. I'm a fourth generation Floridian but can't stand what has become of Florida.

Default East TN- thumbs down.

My family and I do not like East TN. We moved to the Knoxville area three years ago. Currently, we are making plans to move back North. Take my advice, make a few week-long visits to the area to see if you can live with the drawbacks of the area.
