Looks like he could qualify for Cookeville's fire department:

FIREFIGHTER/FIREFIGHTER TRAINEE – City of Cookeville, Tennessee

Other smaller towns in the area might also have less stringent requirements.

I agree. He may want to look into some of the smaller cities around this area. He might just qualify for those departments. Don't give up to quickly.

Tell him not to worry about that stuff. Many fire departments are going to re-train you anyway. Rural/Metro for the county will train him if hired.

I hope your search works out well no matter where you decide to settle. I an a retired firefighter and I too use to live in SWFL and was very happy to get out of there. That place has gone crazy with growth not to mention the never ending hot weather.

Being in Louisiana, I'm a firefighter too. We are looking into moving to East Tennessee as well. I looked into some full time departments and I would have to get Tennessee certified. I read that yall are deciding on Woodstock, Ga area. Good for yall in making decisions to relocate. And I wish yall the best. I'm quite sure that the best thing is to have him call the dept around your future location and see if they'll accept firemanship training from other state or if they would hire him and train him according to NFPA standards.
