I am planning a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in October and my wife and I would like to rent a cabin for a few days in the Gatlinburg, TN area. While researching online, I have come across several different sites of companies that rent cabins in the area, but it is difficult to to discern which are the reputable ones from a distance. The cabins look great in the photos (no surprise), but there is no way to know if these units are adjacent to transient encampments or across the road from an all night bar, or landfill etc.

Has anyone had any experience in renting cabins in the area and if so, which are the more reputable agencies that facilitate these short term rentals, particularly to out-of-towners?

Thanks in advance for your feedback as I continue my research.

Not likely any cabins in Gatlinburg are near any of the things on your list. October is peak time for rentals here, so you may have to scramble to reserve something.
There are just too many rental companies to even keep track of.

Hi -

The best thing for you to do is read the rental reviews. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau. I do know that Sevier County has an active Chamber of Commerce also and you can check and see if they are a member of that organization; that in and of itself isn't indicative of anything but does count for good citizenship in the area with other business owners.

Best to you.
