Is it really better in Knoxville???
I currently live in Miami Fl. I really need to move. I have a 16yr old daughter that can't go to the highschool in our zone because of the gangs ( and i live in a nice area ) I have to send her to private school that isn't much better. I'm paying 13,000.00 in property taxes and 15,000. in property insurance can't afford health. I have visited knoxville many times and found it so nice but I know sometimes visiting is diff than living in an area. Any advice you have would be much appreciated.
thank you

If you're paying $28,000 in property taxes and homeowner's insurance, then yes, it would be better here. You could easily afford health insurance and could probably buy a pretty nice piece of property in a good school district. You will, of course, give things up. It's all a trade-off. Good luck!

Yes, go to Knoxville! I earned my master's degree there and miss it - it's a great place. And it's got to be a better place for kids than Miami is with all the gang worries there. And if you like nature, there aren't many places that can top it - especially with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park half an hour away.
As for schools, I don't know much about the public high schools there, but it seemed like there were many different neighborhoods and towns (Farragut, Powell, etc.) that had their own personalities and, believe it or not, accents. The quality of the schools appeared to be okay and the safety I'm sure would be an improvement over Miami-area schools.

it completely depends on your desires as to what area of knoxville to live in. i live in fountain city. it used to be it's own little town. they actually had a hearse drive thru the day it was annexed. if you want to live with all the rich snobs, then live in west knoxville, particularly farragut area. if you want another snobby area that's not full of rich people but has a higher cost of living, move to halls. the country includes powell, clinton, and corryton area. if you want the projects, live in south knoxville: lonsdale, chrisenberry heights, austin east. you can also live in surrounding areas. maryville and friendsville are small religious areas (well, they used to be religious) close to west knoxville. west knoxville is completely ridiculous with traffic, but maybe where you're from, it's a breeze-i don't know really. if you are going to work in west knoxville, you will want to live somewhere that you do NOT have to go thru the papermill area to get there. in other words, not too far east. east knox area includes the halls, corryton, and also mascot area. my area, fountain city, is wonderful. it is close to the bad parts, but doesn't cost much. what is your job? maybe then i can help.

Property taxes and insurance no where even close to those numbers. You can probably divide your numbers by 10 (literally) to get Knoxville's numbers. There are excellent public schools here. Knoxville's great, but it's not Miami, which is good and bad. I would certainly recommend visiting a few more times and checking things out personally.

 I frequently drove from downtown to the Farragut area between 3 and 5 o'clock. Never did the morning commute, but the afternoon one is no biggie. Yeah, there's traffic, but if you're coming in from LA or Florida you won't have much trouble.

The bad is east to west in the morn and west to east in the evening. It's really bad, possibly worse, coming from halls in the morn and going to halls in the even.
As far as your daughter, gangs are everywhere, so are bad people. I know little to nothing of the private schools past 8th grade here. I do know which public schools would meet certain criteria that you might be after. Let me know. (Just a note, we're trying to sell our house...interested?) A little joke, but we are trying to move. We own property in the country and my husband would like to be closer to his kids from his first wife.

My wife and I are moving to the Knoxville area around July1. We have a boat that needs to be docked in a marina. We are moving to a place called Walden Legacy that is located on Walden Legacy Way. Does anyone know what would be the closest marina to this address????

Probably the closest marina would be the Concord Yacht Club. It's off Northshore Drive between Concord Road and Choto Road.
