Mendenho most likely just needs to learn manners and stop with the elitist attitude that people pick up...and just talk a little slower and ya will just fit right in.

Just a joke but we have a saying here. The difference between a Yankee and a damn Yankee, is the later one comes down here a stays.

Welcome all you Yankees...btw I like the Adirondack area.

Smile Welcome, s74jst!

I know I am going to mess up your screen name sooner or later, s74jst, so do not be offended if we start to abbreviate it!! These typing fingers mean well, they just don't perform the way they are asked to sometimes.

You gave some excellent advice in your earlier post about what to expect with a move to Knoxville area. This is true of any move to any new city and culture. Change is sometimes not easy and it does take awhile to adjust.

It sounds like you have found the right attitude to making that adjustment and I am happy to hear that you feel that you are finally making some new friends and connections.

Having little ones certainly does make meeting new people much easier, but you have found other ways of becoming involved in your community. Church, clubs, and volunteer activities will always end up producing new friendships, and then, that in turn seems to open even more new doors.

As for your father, I am sure that there are some senior community events that you might want to try to interest him in. What are some of his interests? Does he have any hobbies? Was his profession when working something that he could put to good use now on a volunteer or part-time basis. For instance, a skill that he might be able to teach a boy scout troop, at the local library or maybe, an after-school activities group?

Anything that might make him feel like he is contributing to his new community and making friends in the bargain, should help him to feel more at home.

There is a book written about Halls that maybe he would be interested in reading and learning some of the history behind his new home place.

Cocca, Carolyn, Coordinator. A History of Halls. (Information compiled by the Halls Business and Professional Club). Halls Business and Professional Club, 1985.

Best of everything to you, your DH, and your father. Be sure to ask if you need help finding something that you think would interest DAD.
