I have a jar of chowchow from our last trip to TN--it's like a corn relish, sort of. Yummy!
OOH, the visual on the grass stain is a little eeew...on top of the whole "tongue" idea.
And for what it's worth, the deep fried (dill) pickle was really darned good. I know it sounds gross but what can I say?

LOL she must have prepared those tongues awfully weird. If you do it the "right" way there should be no way to see any sort of stains!
Blackberry dumplings are served with anything you want, I guess. Last weekend I had them with beef stew and cornbread.

I thought the same thing until a friend put one in my hand at a catfish restaurant, and I ate it thinking it was a chip.
They are sliced very, very thin and fried crispy. They resemble potato chips, but with a very slight tang to the taste. You'd never know they are pickles. My husband likes the salt and vinegar chips, and they taste a bit like that, just not as strong a taste.

Jabogitlu- The lack of culinary talents of my mother could fill an entire message board! Imagination and reading recipes weren't her strong suit if you know what I mean.
Blackberry Dumplings with Beef stew is different.

Deep fried pickles rock! Don't eat them straight out of the fryer though. I burned the heck out of my mouth once. If you like pickles and fried food (who doesn't?), then you'll like fried pickles. They aren't that easy to find on the menu though.
Banana puddin' is southern isn't it? My boyfriend loves it. How about fried green tomatoes? You could fry just about anything in the south and we'd eat it! My big exception: chicken livers. Gross.
I have lived in Chattanooga for the better part of 27 years, and have never heard of chocolate gravy on biscuits. I'd be willing to try it though .

My pickle was a spear, not a chip. But next month I'll be in search of the chip style and will be back with a full report!

Chocolate gravy is a mystery to me too. Can someone fill me in? On Page 1 of this thread I posted a link to a chess pie recipe. On the same page is a recipe for chocolate gravy and I had no idea what it was about. How do you eat it? What's it taste like? (well, duh, I assume like chocolate but sweet/salty/??)

BBKaren- I've heard of Chocolate gravy on Biscuts, never tried it though. Bill says it is yummy. I'm not to brave trying new foods at times. Took me awhile to get used to biscuts and gravy served with eggs.
Let me know how you like Chocolate gravy on your biscuts when you do try it.....

Gulf Seafood Source in west Knox
You all may be familiar with this spot, but I have just discovered Coastal Connections, a fresh seafood market. Location is just east of the intersection of Lovell Road and Hardin Valley.
They are open Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat. More info at Coastal Connections ~ Seafood Market
We had some very nice cobia and royal red shrimp from them last night!
As someone used to getting great seafood from the Atlantic, from various NC sources, it is fun to experience the fruit of another "sea."

Biscuits and gravy with eggs took getting used to??? That's my favourite meal, I say!
Ohhhhhhhhh, okay. I was thinking of a whole, big ol' pickle just being plunked down into a deep fryer. The chips sound MUCH better!
And yeah, chocolate gravy is eaten on biscuits. It's sort of a sweet treat!
