Oh, yeah. I agree that the breakfast there cannot be beat. So much food, but DH always manages to pack all of his and half of mine away!
I'll meet you in the morning, jabogitlu!! You'll have to finish mine, though!

Do you think the cracker barrels here in NJ are as good as the ones down by you, or do you think they cook "faux" southern here cuz they're yankees?
There's a cracker barrel about 1/2 hour from here but it never occurred to me to go there, I had always thought cracker barrel was, like, Friendly's or something, not something special with really good food!

Dear Lord, Please forgive dear Karen and recognize that she has been punished enough by not going to Cracker Barrel, even though you provided one close to her. In the name of all that is holy, and hash brown casserole, Amen.
PS. Thank you for using me as the light for Karen; leading yanks to Cracker Barrel is an honor.

We cooked a good ol' southern meal tonight: carrots, green beans, and mashed potatoes with southern cornbread. My boyfriend made the cornbread tonight (the best he has ever made). He asked me if I had ever had it soaked in milk or buttermilk (I hadn't). Sounds very old-fashioned. Has anyone else tried this? We have buttermilk in the fridge, so I may have to try that with a piece of leftover cornbread tomorrow.

Cornbread in milk or buttermilk is called mash in our family. My grandfather was one of 7 boys and my great-grandmother would fix each of the boys a pail of mush in the morning and they would carry it to school for lunch. (ewwww!) There were no plastic spoons back then and they would carry their spoon back and forth to school.
Your dinner sounds great!

Wow! That's southern! Dinner was good SmokyMtnGal, thanks. I usually cannot cook carrots, other than roasting them in the oven. I always time them wrong and they are undercooked when everything else is ready. We had to have some veggies, as we were feeling malnourished from eating pizza, burgers, and PBJ's for the past few days. We were painting our kitchen, so we couldn't really fix anything healthy. Of course, by healthy, I mean vegetables and starches cooked in lots of butter! That's how we do veggies in the south. Salads are for rabbits! (Kidding - I love a good salad. Though of course that salad is even better if there are some fried chicken fingers on top of it).
