So recently a neighbor had a yard sale and barely anyone came. We've heard that yard sales aren't getting great turn out lately in Knoxville. Any tips on best ways to advertise a yard sale? It's actually more than one house on the road participating so we're really hoping for a good turn out.
We're in Fountain City, any suggestions?

There are yard sale websites (free to post) - I put mine on at least 4 of those. There's a Knoxville yard sale facebook page. Definitely put it in the newspaper (doesn't cost much). Put it on craigslist. And the old fashioned way, post signs. Just make sure you use a nice bold sharpie! There are so many yard sale signs I can't read!

Does your area have a Nextdoor site? The neighborhoods around us host sales and advertise there. They also post (and later remove and save) signs near busy intersections.

Thanks! How many days beforehand would you suggest posting signs?

I'd want to post signs 2 weeks before, with the dates on them, but I know no one does that...so I'd post them Monday for a sale at the end of that week.

Another question. Do you think scheduling a sale on the same day as a Vols game decreases traffic to the sale?

Decreases. People generally don't do anything but the game that day, especially during the hours that you would have a sale. I STRONGLY advise against this.

I should've asked before the sale haha that explains why we got so few people and absolutely none after 1:30. My signs were pretty awesome, if I say so myself, so I figured there had to be another reason lol

Yeah, never a good idea. Other things not to do on football day: festivals, weddings, birthday parties, etc.

On the other hand, if you don't give a flip about the Vols, it's a superb time to go shopping. Just steer clear of downtown all day, especially after the game.

Live and learn, right?

Noted, I will from now on plan around the game schedule!
Is it a big deal here for other sports too (basketball. Baseball, etc), or is it just UT football?

I'm still adjusting to the Vols love here. NY isn't known for any college football love so this is a new world to me! Though I did buy a Vols shirt and a nice Tennessee orange one, because I do think it's awesome the way locals all bleed orange and I'm working on growing some spirit too . I really am loving it here.
