Default Southern Hospitality to the rescue!

So, the movers came today to deliver our furniture. Unbeknownst to us, 2600 sqft of furniture simply does not fit into 1300 sqft no matter how you try stack and arrange things (you would think that was obvious). Add to that our old townhouse was not made to fit large furniture upstairs made matters worse.

Fast forward to the stroke I was having as the furniture started to pile up downstairs. I was losing it. I asked the mover who drove the stuff up from Florida (Sam from Florida) if his company (a national mover) had a storage facility that we could store some stuff and he said no. More panic sets in. The other guy (Joe from Maryville) says he can help us. He works for a local mover who also has a storage facility in Maryville. He gives me the phone number for his boss so I can call and explain our situation. Boss says no problem, just tell the guys what we want to store and they will take it away for us. And he only charged me the storage fee, nothing for all the extra moving and delivery to the storage facility! Yay! I was majorly relieved. He saved the day big time. I couldn't imagine having been left with all that furniture all over the house. We wouldn't have been able to move.

In our defense, most of this furniture came with us from NJ and our house there was only 1300 sqft. The difference is here we have many more closet, this is a two story and we have another full bath. Plus a couple of things wouldn't fit up the stairs. What a crazy day! But all is well and we are sitting comfy now in the living room enjoying a fire (eventhough it's 60 degrees out).

Oh, so that is where the stuff came from at this evenings sidewalk sale. I only had to pay Joe $25 for your curio cabinet and I think it looks great in my house!

JUST KIDDING!

I am glad that a stressful day had a happy ending.

That is too funny. If you would have said that at 11:00 this morning, I would have said, good, take it!

How funny!

After living in Florida, when I moved here, I was always prepared for the worst. I was expecting to encounter rude and be left in the lurch at every turn.

Other than some bad job-hunting experiences, everything here went smoothly. Expect more to come. After a while, you'll calm down and not worry so much.

I have a similar experience when moving from Jefferson Co. from a one story to Greene Co. to a two story many years ago. We were cheep (not by choice) and packed up the U-Haul ourselves. Having to finish packing the truck that morning then unloading it same day delivering beds and boxes up stairs, by 4:00 we were WORE OUT! I felt every muscle in me screaming, even ones I didn't know I had! Well, here we were with a new house full of boxes and furniture, had to return the truck in less than an hour and a piano left in the truck. About 500 pounds of piano. I was seriously contemplating giving the piano to the U-Haul Co just so I didn't have to take it off the truck. We didn't have anything but a standard dolly with wheels and a different angle to unload it than load it which would mean a lot more lifting of the thing than it took to put it in the truck, so there was just no way we could see to get that thing off the truck at that point of no umph left.
Then comes our new neighbors who had just come home from work, said hello and asked if there was anything they could help with. I laughed and said something like" Well, unless you know how to make a piano fly...." They looked in the truck and said " be back in 5 minutes, we'll take care of it". I almost cried. They went across the street to the fire Dept (they were firemen) got this cool gizzmo with wheels, came back, plopped the piano on it and rolled it right into the house and placed it just where we wanted it.
Talk about knights in shinning armor! Ya gotta love TN people, they are the best if in a lurch!

Mbmouse, is this the same move that took you over the mountain and through the woods via The Tail of the Dragon? Yikes!! We're glad that you made it at all!

LilCabinGirl, you deserve a medal for all that you two have gone through the past couple of weeks. What troupers! I am so glad you made it, finally.

Now, the big question is - are you and hubby going to make it to Falls Creek Falls next month for the get-together?
