Not only is that a lie, it is totally irresponsible to make such blanket statements.
Maybe we Southerners enjoy our free time and casual lunch breaks more than people from New Jersey, but that most certainly does NOT mean that we don't want to work.

I agree with JMT. My personal experience has been that this area is full of hard working, sincere, honest people. NJDevil, you sure you aren't mixing those with a bad work ethic from Jersey up with the locals from Knoxville?
Careful NJDevil, you give the rest of us yanks a bad undeserved rep with such empty inflamatory blanket statements. Such small minded judgements are yours alone and they should be kept to yourself because you sure don't speak for this yankee.

Job Hunting
Apricot,
I myself have been involved in a long job search for the Knoxville area, and just recently got a good job offer from Siemens. I had the most luck finding jobs by using the following web search engines (SimplyHired) and (Job.com) these are just large search engines that pull in all the jobs available based on your search criteria. These sites are where I found the job with Siemens and applied for it. Also with a BA in communcations I would take a look at EWScripps there in Knoxville. I have seen many job postings from them on the search engines, and they have a lot of involvement in communications etc.

My husband has encountered MANY locals who do not want to work. They don't show up, they don't call, they come in drunk....maybe it is only certain industries. I am talking about blue-collar not white-collar. Just pointing out what we've observed - that's all I can do.

I know several out of state employers who say the same thing, and I have observed it myself elsewhere as a customer. It is a national thing, not a local thing. These jobs that employ individuals who don't come in or come in drunk have elements of commonality. They are low paying dirty scut work, or are generally undesirable for other reasons. They tend to attract the sort of people that you don't really want, because no one else is going to apply for them.
In short, it isn't a local Knoxville area phenomenon, and by implying that it is, you do the people of this region a profound disservice.

he's a chef with 25 years experience, he worked at a few different restaurants in the area, and they all had the same problems with employees (waitstaff, cooks and dishwashers). A lot of times he was working the whole kitchen by himself.
I wasn't trying to imply it's a Knoxville phenomenon. Our realtor, who is a native of this area, agrees that locals are lazy. I agree that it's all over - we saw this in FL too.
I'm done with this thread because I can't say anything without you all jumping down my throat.
