The problem is a lot deeper. It was a highly questionable land grab. See this info on the town of Vonore.

I agree. Lot's of "My Mountain" going on there. Change is good but unfortunately some people have a hard time with change even if they will benefit from it.

There does seem to be a positive spin on the venture.

The town of Vonore was too tough to die, and at the present time, Vonore is poised on the verge of tremendous growth, residentially and commercially. Ironically, this growth will probably allow Vonore to regain almost full control over its destiny, but the Vonore of the past has to give way to a new identity.
I don't think it is fair though for the locals to treat the new residents with contempt. Once the land is developed, someone is going to move in. Like I said in another thread, change is inevitable and you can spend your entire life mad about the circumstances or embrace the change and make new friends.

If the "locals" who lost land want to be mad at someone, they should be mad at TVA. TVA was the one that took the land to make the lake. Then they sold land to the developer, who in turn sold it to the various home building companies, who in turn sell it to the new homeowners. Why be mad at the person at the end of the chain? They had nothing to do with the eminent domain issues. I understand the frustration with what happened, but that was a generation ago and the new buyers of homes aren't responsible for what happened.

Exactly......to treat the new residents badly as if they had anything to do with it, is wrong. That's like blaming a little kid for having bad parents.

I think that there is probably a bit of class tension thrown in there somewhere. "Uppity Yankees with more money than I have must think that they're better than me" type thing. To be honest, I'm sure that most of these sentiments involve a very small minority on both sides.

it is the snobs in tellico village that look down their noses at the locals and think they are better than everybody else. they want to change things to the way they were where they came from. if it was so great there, WTF are they doing here?
