my DH & I are considering moving to Knoxville...or CO...or TX...
we are interested in waterfront property...would there be anything like that in this area? we don't want to be in a retirement community...younger family community preferred. budget 450k-700k.
IF no waterfront...what about gated communities? are there any around there? so far we like Maryville & Farragut, just from what I have read regarding postings.
Thank you!!

There are many lakefront developments around Knoxville. South and west is Lake Loudon. Farther south is Tellico Lake. East of Knoxville is Douglas Lake.

Lake Loudon is closer to the city and has some very upscale developments right on the lake. In fact, Sequoyah Hills, which is just a couple of miles west of downtown, has some older mansions right on the lake. Northshore Drive, Westland Drive, and Concord Road all connect the lake to the city. A popular area with lakefront access is Concord.

Duncan Road and Lyons Bend Road also provide access to the lake and are located in the heart of Knox County.

Alcoa Hwy, which connects downtown with the airport and Blount County, hugs Lake Loudon and provides access to other developments along the lake: Beechwood, Fox Hills, Lakemoor Hills.

Tellico Lake is newer (finished in the late 70s) and is more rural. It's quite popular with retirees and is located about 40 miles south of Knoxville.

Douglas Lake was one of the first TVA lakes and is located about 30 miles east of Knoxville towards the Smoky Mountains.

Just moved here 2 weeks ago. Yes, there are plenty of waterfront properties in the Knoxville area. Although I'm not familiar with the entire area yet, I can tell you that I live off of Concord Road which runs into Northshore drive. Plenty of communitities on Northshore Drive which have homes overlooking the water and the area is convenient to most all of Knoxville.

Since you mentioned Maryville and Farragut, you may want to look into the homes off Pellissippi Parkway (which connects Maryville to West Knoxville). There are newer homes on the lake in that area. Some are in Blount County and some are in Knox. I don't recall all the road names, but some that I am thinking of would probably be those mentioned on Northshore and around Concord.
