What you are asking is personal preference, not everyone is the same . We happened to live on the East side but that never stopped us from going to the West side. In fact that was one of the things we enjoyed was going to the West side to hit Baker Peter's to listen to Uncle Funky and Zero Cash play on a Monday night. Many times we'd go out to dinner first and be back home by 11 P.M. We liked the fact that we had all these choices available within a half hours drive of where we were living.

What desirable neighborhoods are within a 15 min. drive to either Victor Ashe Park or Morningside Park?
How far away is Turkey Creek shopping center from West Town Mall?

About ten minutes by way of I-40. About 17 hours by way of Kingston Pike.

We went there once, a 30 mile plus one way drive for us. It was a major disappointment. The food was mediocre at best, yet high priced. They advertised jazz, but instead had some pop-rock goof who dressed and acted like he was playing the worst dive in Key West.
Never again.

Eat,
Sure the food is overpriced and not that good. Why do you think we went to dinner BEFORE we listened to the band?? Not sure who you saw at Baker Peters and it really doesn't matter if we're referring to the same band. My point was that it was enjoyable that we had options all within a half hours drive of either side of Knoxville.
You having a bad day? Not sure if you meant to come across as critical and looking for an arguement about a group of guys playing at a club when the thread isn't about them.

Just wanted you to know that we chose East TN because it reminded us so much of home (in WI) minus the heavy snowfalls. Since we haven't yet reached permanent residency in TN (we're waiting for me to retire in FL), we are learning distances from here to there. I can tell you that the closest Kohl's in TN is 25 minutes; in FL, 2 minutes. The tradeoff is I won't mind driving 25 minutes when I retire; it's all worth it. We haven't done West Town Mall to Turkey Creek, so I can't help there. West Town Mall area is huge. We've only been once. I think you will be quite pleased in East TN. Must say, though, we chose to live in Blount County rather than metro Knox. Also, not far from Tyson-McGee airport (higher rates, though).

Island Home neighborhood is very beautiful and it is almost across the river from Morningside Park. You could ride your bike easily or even walk if you are ambitious. What type/size house and yard are you looking for? Age, Price range?

Suzanne1945...
What about East Tn reminds you so much of Wisconsin?
You moved to Fl from Wi? I was actually born & raised in Fl., left there in '82. We've been in Wi for 19 years. Retirement here will be too expensive for us, especially when there are better other options like Tn. We've had it with the long cold, snowy winters! We would choose Knoxville to be close to the disc golf courses. We are also considering the Tri-Cities area of Kingsport.
Hope your wait won't be to long to make that retirement move
creeksitter....
I haven't heard of that neighborhood. It sound interesting though. How far are any of the malls, grocery stores from there?
We are actually looking to buy a house between $100,000-$125,000 if it's possible. With that price range in mine, I would expect we'd be left with an older house. I'd say perhaps 1200sq. feet or so would be fine. We'd prefer a ranch style house. We'd like to have some space between us & the neighbors.

The trek from West Town Mall to Turkey Creek can vary greatly depending on the time of day, but most of the time it's no trouble at all. The West Hills exit off of I-40 for the mall is (I believe) 380, and you can get to Turkey Creek by taking exit 376 (Lovell Road) or exit 374 (Campbell Station/Farragut). I generally opt for the Campbell Station exit due to an overall lower amount of traffic, but you shouldn't have serious problems getting there either way. I'd say it would take 20 minutes on a bad day and 5-10 minutes on a good day.
