New Farmer's Mkt coming soon to far west area
Heard just enough about it on the radio to get the website. Apparently they will be opening shop the first week of June and are currently looking for local farmers/gardeners who are interested in being involved.
Since it will be very close to both where I live and work, I will definitely be trying it out. Would love to buy fresh eggs and produce from the local farming community. Good for the environment, good for the economy, and good for your health! I had seen people asking about any local farmer's markets occasionally, so hopefully this will be useful to someone looking for one.

Nice. Hopefully it will do better in a far west location than the initial farmer's market over in east town area did.

Thanks for the link, TNbound. That will be fabulous for so many of us.
And, you are right. There was a lot of info passing back and forth about farmer's markets in the fall. This will be good news for everyone in the Knoxville area.

The Farmers Market in Memphis is located in the South Main area of downtown and does really well. Downtown Knoxville is smaller but has a lot going for it and the type of people that live there would love shopping there.
Where is the Farmers Market going? Hopefully, not Turkey Creek.

From the article it seems that it will be down toward Dixie Lee Junction (past Farragut toward Lenoir City).
The funny thing is that I remember the old produce stand near where Blockbuster video/Food City (the old Bi-Lo bldg) is in Farragut. It was torn down for a new strip shopping center ie "progress". ;-)

Speaking of Farragut, when I lived there the cinema had just opened up on Kingston Pike and that was labeled "progress". Now it is my understanding that the theater is already closed?
Is there anything in the mall where the cinema use to be?

Yep, you're right; the theater is closed as Regal built a monster over in Turkey Creek. Ingle's is still in the shopping center but the center itself is rundown looking and so sad.

Ingles tore down the old theatre and is building a new "super" Ingles. I'm quiet certain they feel they have to in order to stay competitive with the Super Target, Super Walmart, and coming Super Kroger, and really they probably have seen a lot of lost revenue due to growing competitors withing a 3 mile range.
While all the big growth sucks in a way, its simply a sign of America's population booming. We already have well over 50 million more people in this country since I entered high school in 1990. Thats close to a 17% increase. Sprawl is everywhere, but the only way we can expect it to decline or stablize is if the population does likewise, which is highly unlikely.
Anyway, back to the topic, the farmers market will be in the far west part of Farragut, where Hwys 11 and 70 split. I don't know how well it will go, but it seems like a really good area for it and hopefully the word will get out enough that it will be successful. While I don't mind buying some things at the store, I sure would like the option of buying local produce.

I really wish there were more farmer's markets and stands. I've been to the ones in Knoxville and Oak Ridge and there wasn't much there. I thought Knoxville's was very surprising. It's a city surrounded by farms. Very odd.

It would be great if Knoxville could get a farmer's market going. We have a big one here in Madison, Wi downtown. It surrounds the capitol all the way around the square. We have it on Sat., Spring through Fall from about 6am-2pm. There are vendors who sell food & drink, as well as many who sell plants, veg. & fruit. We also have a huge Arts & Crafts sale once a year displayed in the same area. both are very successful here.
