Hey guys! I first want to start off by saying that no one apple is to be compared to another and therefore I do not mean to offend anyone here as I do not know you nor have I ever talked with you. I live in Dandridge. I am 27 years old and have two children 4 months and 4 years. I would not recommend anyone my age or with children moving here. We moved here 6 months ago. Dandridge is THE SMALLEST town in the US, Well it is the second smallest and thats a fact. I have found that old phrase "Southern Hospitality" does NOT pertain here. They have almost no idea what that is. We have found peole to be extremely rude here. They do NOT like newcomers here. The general population here is quite a bit older and hence the attitude. I really like Sevier. I like beingh close to the interstate, close to the mountains and attractions but far from the traffic and craziness. I can just barely manage it here because we are on the border of Sevier here. Once my lease is up, we will be moving. Now my dad who is in his 50's and works for the county likes it here. He does agree they can be rude but its more his style. Slower pace. That is just my opinion of Dandridge. If you will be working in Knoxville, you are going to pay dearly for gas. I think Sevier county in general is top! Dont know about the schools though. Mine are too little. Finally after I had my son in January, we moved here in November, I decided t get the 4 year old out more. I emailed the Chamber of Commerce to find out where there were local parks around the entire county of Jefferson and they coudlnt even tell me where there parks were. Now thats pathetic. They just are not set up to handle newbies. all they see is taxes going up and stuff and they are scared and dont want any part of it! And I understand that. I have met some overly nice people here. I have also met a lot of pushy Baptists here as well. They have constantly hounded me about attending there churches and I have told them no Thank you but we are Catholic! So its a big mix here. Maybe it will be better for you. I am from FL and they really dont like us. Sevier on the other hand has a lot of vacationers and they know how to be kind to people since they are a tourist area. That I like and they give discounts to attractions for residents.

Danielle,
Just remember there is a price to pay as a resident of Sevier just to get discounts on the attractions.
You and I paint two different views of Dandridge on this thread, which is a very good thing. As a young mom you find a different Dandridge then I do as a retired 40 something transplant. But rudeness I haven't come across. From the local guys who mow my lawn to the local mechanics who operate out of the Co-op building to the man at the dump, the grocery store or local restaurants I haven't come across anyone as rude. The rudest person I know in Dandridge is my neighbor who happens to be from Jersey.
I hope the rest of your year gets better and you get to enjoy the Dandridge I discovered when we moved here a year ago.
All the best,
Pam

That is SOOO funny that you say that because the guy at the dump is sooo rude to us! My mottow is "kill em' with kindness" so I just smile and wave! LOL See you can not judge any one persons opinion. People are all treated diffirently! No one is equal! But I think we can probably BOTH agree that there is no better place to raise kids. The down to earth, wholesome family values still remain. People still say yes mam and no sir! Where can you find that still? All in all we are struggling with our move to TN from FL but we do enjoy it most of the time here. I know it will take some time. Im just debating on which one of the hundreds of cemetaries I will end up in! LOL Dandridge is however a very cute place. It has beautiful scenery, FRESH AIR! LOL and a lot of historic charm. I had only been here a few months when I heard the barber shop on 92 burned down and was so relieved to find out he was sparred! Now thats a nice GUy! Love Mr. FEE and all teh guys at the barber shop! They are really down to earth and great people. Good luck with your move!

Good luck Mystic Fire, keep us posted. It is always funny to hear different perspectives
of how people see an area. We really had planned on moving to Dandridge but we found a house in Baneberry and changed our mind. Hopefully it will be a good fit.
