It was a sad day when Kay's Ice Cream on Chapman Highway closed. Now it is re-opening in August! Great news for the community!

Tell me more about Kay's Ice Cream, Beretta. I'm moving from Maryville to Knoxville end of July. I have a favorite ice cream place in Friendsville. What makes Kay'a special?

Kathi - Kay's was a special memory for those of us that grew up with it. You can read about it here: https://www.knoxnews.com/story/shopp...ain/989736001/

Wow! A trip back in time. I grew up in Karns (until 10th grade), and my family used to stop there (at another location, cannot recall the road) for ice cream after visiting my grandparents downtown. I haven't lived in or been to Knoxville in AGES, but that brings back great memories. Thanks for that!

I remember my parents and I would stop at Kay's in Bearden at the corner of Sutherland Avenue and Westwood Road (I think?) and another one at the corner (split?) of Kingston Pike and Sutherland Avenue. I also remember the one on Chapman and one in Maryville (or Alcoa).

The one in Maryville was off of West Broadway near the intersection with Old Niles Ferry Rd. I think there is a Bruster's at that location now.

Does anyone know why the name was changed to Scott's Place? The owners stated to the news in July that they would keep the Kay's name? Were there usage rights issues with Food City owning the name now?
