Bump!
Just bumping this back up, as I'm hoping to hear more from BBKaren on their trip! I spotted some listings in the Maynardville area also and was curious. I also read on here something about high migraine areas - ooooh boy - I hope not! As I'm a migraine sufferer.
blessings, Shen

Just checking in real quick. I think we found our spot. It's in Kingston, on the Loudon border--a Loudon address but located in the outskirts of kingston. 25 miles from work and a lovely rural area!
It's a nice, fully wooded lot with tons of big trees (and tons more brush to clear). The best part is it's only about .81 acres for $15,900 (we're probably going to offer $12k) but it's surrounded by 5-6 acres of TVA land! Yay!
The neighbors live in a dumpy trailer but are really nice and we could care less about that, as you folks know. There are mostly very nice houses in the area and a ton of horses and cows. We've been on the site 4 times and only 4 or 5 cars have passed us.
I'm so psyched!

So Maraplus...are we neighbors? The site we're looking at is in the Lake Awana subdivision. We'd have a Loudon address but actually be in Kingston.

We're back home now, and I'll start working on the thousands of pictures I've taken. Be aware that I have literally just clicked and clicked--many many pictures will be of little interest.
But at the same time, might give a person a feel for a given community, or help at least.
I imagine I can get the pics up tonight sometime.
In the meantime, we're waiting to hear from the TVA about the land next door to the property we like. The realtor told us we could use it anyway we wanted to but just can't build on it or take down the trees. She even said we might be able to keep animals on it...! Anyone ever heard such a thing?

Great to see you back! I can't wait to see photo's of your trip!
That would be great if you could use the lands next door. Right now, I only have a dog, and if we can only afford less than 5 acres, I'm hoping we can find property next to state lands so she can run, and she and I can walk and explore. And, if by any chance, there be any fishing holes nearby, that would be a HUGE bonus! I'd also love to get some small farm animals, but we'll see.
Hubby and I would like to stay about one hour commute from Knoxville, but that can stretch a bit too, depending on the property and the area.
I am sooooooo jealous of everyone who are able to get down there and explore! November can't come soon enough for me!!!
blessings, Shen

Shen you should check where we found land--seriously, there was tons of land for sale, although smaller parcels mostly. But it's such a rural area, the dogs all seem to run free.
If you're looking at larger parcels around Knoxville (Roane, Union, Anderson, Knox, Blount Counties) and you get details on some of the land, feel free to let me know because I've done the legwork on a lot of them. We were looking at 3+ acres for under $40k and most of what we found was serious cliffs. But there is a place in Kingston that we saw possibility in--on Charlie Brown Road, ~5 acres and was pretty nice; needs some major excavation (hilly, fully wooded) but nice and secluded area, nice houses around too. That's the only one we wound up considering a possibility (until this one) because of the incline of the terrain on most of them.
I'll get those pics up asap!

Hi,
I'm so happy for you !- It sounds wonderful... I know as "fun' as it can be ...the 'looking' process is also stressful.
Well, I doubt that we will be too far from each other...what is the zip code? Ours is 37774. Is there a named street near you...? Sounds like your property might be closer to Kingston then ours. Funny cuz when I was scouring the MLS listings I had inquired about the one on Charlie Brown Road also...I dont remember why we decided against it....maybe the 'major excavation' that you mentioned. I didn't want to have to deal with that.
I actually saw our property for the first time during Spring Break and I thought it was perfect....5 acres is really bigger then I expected. Actually the Loudon -Roane County area is ideal. The Smokeys being about 1 hour to the East and the Cumberland Mountains 1 hour to the West and the "river' and lakes within 5 -10 minutes. We didnt get to do much looking around in the Roane Loudon area when we were there...so I cant wait to see your pictures!!!! CONGRATS! And Shen its great that you found this site....we will cheer you on and help however we can in your search!

OK- I think I found Lake Awana on mapquest....our property is SW of yours...across the river. If you put in Duke Lane or Cedar Grove Rd on mapquest then Lake Awana....you can get a perspective. Its such a pretty area...I bet your thrilled with your property!!
