Anyone know anything about these towns/communities?
Karns, Plainview, Corryton, Powell, and Hardin Valley? What about to the east of knoxville like Jefferson county? Are the schools good for these areas, nice towns? I've looked at the CD profiles but am just wondering from people that know the areas. Thanks, I appreciate any help.

I have driven thru parts of Karns, Powell and Hardin Valley many times, I believe these are nice areas. Powell may not look as nice from the main road (131), but I was in a beautiful development yesterday just off it. Do not know anything about Corryton or Plainview. There are threads here about Dandridge and Morristown in Jefferson County. I've been thru those towns a few times, they seem nice too. Hopefully others can help you more....

I grew up not too far from Powell and went there for school. Yes, the schools are actually pretty nice. The neighborhood... well depends on what you like. It's pretty sprawly and filled with massive subdivisions, built mostly in the 70's with outlying Mcmansion developments all around it and growing closer. Clinton Highway runs right nearby and gives you easy access to Knoxville. There's a whole slew of stores, but no Mom-n-pop joints. Just Super Wal-Mart, Target, and chain restaurants. I wouldn't call it 'beautiful'.

Hardin Valley is generally considered one of the nicer places in the area and has one or two new schools, but there are plans to put a brand new freeway through there. It is called the Orange Route, and has not been well received by the folks who live there, to put it mildly. Googling should provide a lot of info.
I don't know anything about Powell itself, but I do know that some properties with a Powell address aren't in Powell at all. Some aren't even in the same county. Keep that in mind, if you are looking at Powell.

I graduated from the college in Jefferson City. it's a small town with mostly fast food and pizza places and a Super Wal-Mart. It does have a hospital. We had to drive to Morristown or Knoxville to eat at nicer places. Parts of Knoxville were accessible in 30 minutes but West Town mall was closer to an hour away.

charz is correct about Jefferson City - most folks drive to Knox for shopping/dining. But, I believe housing is still considered affordable there and it is an easy drive in on AJ Hwy.

Karns is just some 15 minutes west of downtown Knoxville, down whats called the Oak Ridge hwy,and has all types of homes and developed subds, to choose from, and also some five to six miles, to the Pellessippi connector. Powell is in North knox county, some two to three miles, from Clinton Hwy, or just minutes off of 1-75, and located on Emory rd. It has a very large shopping area, some 10 minutes away, just on Clinton Hwy, or right beside Callahan road. Corryton, is some 30 minutes thru Knoxville, going down hwy 33, then onto Emory, and is probably the most rural of the above, but only some ten minutes from the Ft. City area. Jefferson is attracking lots of out of state home buyers, and is some fortyfive minutes from Downtown Knoxville. So good luck.

I know Powell, Karns, and Hardin Valley are nice suburbs of Knoxville. Don't know too much about the other areas.
