Holston drive runs from about where Magnolia turns into Asheville Hwy (the street changing names thing). Since it's a couple miles long, it can vary a bit as far as houses/neighborhoods go. It crosses Chilhowee drive going into Holston Hills.

Based on the parts I have seen (on the Holston Hills end) it's pretty nice with older homes. I haven't been on the part toward Magnolia.

I have a couple of colleagues from U.T. who live right off of Holston Drive a couple of blocks from Magnolia. It's a really nice neighborhood with beautiful older homes, full grown trees, well-kept lawns. They love the convenience to U.T., I-40, Kroger, Holston Hills Country Club (another great neighborhood), and of course the price. I would not hesitate to live in that neighborhood.

I think that area is going to become popular very soon. With traffic being rerouted for the I-40 construction, more people are going down Magnolia and getting a good look at the lovely homes in that area, plus Magnolia has some good shops and restaurants.

This really helps! I'm a country gal and have never lived in "town", well not in 40 yrs, so this is a big adjustment for me. From what I have seen the houses are not on top of each other. The one I am considering has over an acre, far cry from my present place with 15, it scares me!!! I hope to come up in the next 10 days to look at it in person. The things we do for the kids, huh?

In another thread, I recommended that folks check out Scott's burger place right there on Holston Dr. and Asheville Hwy.... so you might want to stop there when you check out the area. It's cheap, too!

I live in Holston Hills. The road you are talking about can be very nice to just "ok" depending on how far west you are.

Of course, that all depends on your particular tastes.

The further west you go, the sketchier that street can get... but I wouldn't hesitate to live on any part of Holston Dr. if the price is right. I certainly wouldn't feel unsafe. It just gets more and more "blue collar" as you start getting to the farthest west end of the street.

Wow, Kelton, great description. I totally agree.

The further you get into Holston Hills, the nicer and safer it is. Unfortunately, their prices are off the charts for me, lately.

Where is Scott's? I work over at Comcast and would love to find your Scott's. Any other lunch and breakfast finds that you have are greatly appreciated, too.

Thanks in advance, Kelton.

I've driven by Scott's probably 100 times and have never thought about eating there, but I'm definitely going to try it out! If you're on Asheville Hwy headed towards town, it'll be on the left in a building that used to be a Kay's Ice Cream store. It's just a couple hundred yards past the fire station on Asheville Hwy.

And back to Holston Hills: I think it's about the best-kept secret in Knoxville. So many people with money think they have to live in Sequoyah Hills or Farragut, but criminy I think Holston Hills is just as beautiful as anything in Sequoyah Hills, and certainly not anywhere near as crowded. Maybe the only reason Holston Hills isn't more popular is because of the schools?

JMT, you just did it. The building that use to be Kay's? And I would know that because?

Where is it relation to Arby's? It sounds like it is before?

After investigating the schools all day, it looks like the Holston Hills schools are not bad at all. Certainly better than South Knoxville. As far as I can tell, Carter goes to the same schools as the Holston area. I have a friend that lives in Carter and likes the Chilhowee schools. Unfortunately, the schools in the North Hills, etc. are are not that good, either, I think.

Yeah I guess if you'd never seen a Kay's Ice Cream store before they all closed, you wouldn't recognize it. Sorry about that. There was one on Chapman Hwy that closed just a year or so ago. I think it was the last one.

At any rate, Scott's is waaaayyyy before Arby's. It's really close to Holston Hills. After you pass the traffic light at Holston Drive, Scott's is just a few hundred yards down Asheville Hwy on the left. If you get to Kroger you've gone too far.

Good luck! And be sure to let us know how it was...
