Tell me about Knoxville
Tell me about Knoxville!
Please?
A little about myself: I am a 21 year old female looking to move out of FL. (surprise there!) ... I just want something new and there is a possible job that I can transfer to in Knoxville and the area seems nice so I'm looking there.. was previously looking at the Carolinas but staying in my company is important to me and TN does sound/look nice from what I've seen so far....
And if these things you tell me are good, what areas outside of Knoxville can I look at? I don't know that I want to live directly in the city so if you could give me some ideas of towns right outside that would be great.
Thanks for your help.

Well, what are you looking for, what do you want to know?
I think it is impossible to answer that question without just giving you a link to Wikipedia.
Try to be specific.

Sorry about that.. he he.. like I said I am a 21 y/o professional female looking to go back to school a little and maybe work a second job a couple nights a week.
I DO like where I live in the sense that it is by the water and I love boats. I see that there is water there but I don't know how much people boat... I guess I could live without it for a change... I really want change from where I am.. but mostly the people I guess you could say. I love to meet new people and make new friends and it's not the easiest where I am from (Tampa Bay Area). But don't get me wrong that is not just why I am leaving. I just want a breath of fresh air....
I also like the small towns outside of the city where I live that hold some historic attributes and nice little bars, pubs, etc to hang out at. Those are some of the qualities I like.
So I guess tell me a little bit about, do people boat at all there? Will a 21 year old meet people there? What do you like about it?

Well, UT is a great school.
But I don't see boating like there was in Florida. The Tennessee River is beautiful but very muddy.
Be forewarned that this is a very Christian-orientated area. Young people are very much into that here. There are pubs in downtown Knoxville, frequented by UT students, but it is very different than the Florida bar scene. I think it may be an extreme shock coming from Florida.

Thanks for the response, hiknapster.
I'm not into really crowded bars/clubs. I'm more low key.
However I am not at this point in my life what I would consider religious. Spirtual maybe but not religious.. you think that is a big trait in Knoxville - the religious side? I see that TN is pretty religious if I'm not mistaken. Don't get me wrong - not against it by any means.

Even though E TN is pretty religious, there are a bunch of people around here who aren't, particularly at the university. If you're more agnostic, you shouldn't have any problems finding people to hang out with.
When I first moved to Knoxville, some Baptists came to my home to welcome me to the neighborhood and to invite me to church. I politely thanked them but told them I wasn't interested, and they thanked me for being honest and apologized for taking up my time. They've still been very friendly to me.

Since we are talking Knoxville, I'm hearing rumors that UT is a Huge party school based on college averages. So bad, sometimes the proffesors party with the students then miss class. lol. Hey, just trying to bring some excitement into Knoxville alley here. Can someone clear this up for me? BTW, whose is Tennessee's biggest football rival? Is it Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, etc.
thanx

It would be Florida. Steve Spurrier went to highschool no too far from there in Johnson City Tn where I am. So its kinda like a given. But Bama is right there at a close second..

I grew up in Knoxville and most of the people I knew/know there do not attend church. While in school, I had a couple of friends ask me to go to events at their church because we were buddies. I've never lived in any other state so I can't really compare it to other places. I just don't think it lives up to the reputation of beating people over the head with bibles like some people think. But then again, maybe I am used to things here and would view it differently if I were the newcomer.
And to the other post about partying, one year UT was the #1 party school. Earlier this year I was back living in Knoxville and there was a report on the news asking students about how the school had fallen to a lower number on the party chart. Apparently, the people the interviewed were dedicated to reclaiming the title. It was funny. I do not know about professors partying with students. I did not go to UT and don't know much about the way of life on campus over there.

I have never once said that people beat others over the head with Bibles.
And not everyone is Christian.
But there are a lot of Christians in this area. There are a lot of young people that are obvious Christians. I, personally, think that is wonderful.
