I went to the farmer's market on the east side (near the supertarget).
The parking lot was pretty full, but there was always some spots open. It seems that families love to go there with their kids... lots of happy kids running about in the water-works.
I arrived in the last 45 minutes, and the veggies were all sold out. I met one vender named Bob (from New Tazwell) who was sold out as well. He did have some stuff for me to taste, and his vegetables were wonderful.
There was a very good bluegrass band at the band shell.
So all I saw was a bunch of disappointed shoppers saying, "I'm coming earlier next time!".
More than anything else, I was surprised that so many families used the actual park.

Hey, where is the Farmer's Market Sheriff!
Bfskinnerpunk, what time do you think you were there? Was it after 10 AM or so? I'm sure that as the season goes on and more crops are in they won't run out of produce as quickly, wouldn't you think?
Sure sounds like a great outing for a family. I think I would be tempted to eat my way from one end to the other.
That is pretty interesting, Hik, that there was no mention of the surcharge. I'm sure that SMG is right and it had to posted or you could have refused to pay it and receive it at the listed price, period.
I know that in PA and MA if you were overcharged on an item over the advertised or posted price, you were by law entitled to your money back times 2. I don't know if that is federal or by state. My guess would be by state. Anyone know?

That's the problem with the internet. Everything seems magnified.
She told me she charged the tax because she needed the money for the farm upkeep. I kept smiling and figured I would eat it. She seemed a bit snide about it. I thought that the tax was nine percent.
I am far too polite to say anything. She had to walk all the way back to the truck, and I would never make her turn back around. I paid it, went home, found out it was 13 percent, and vowed I would never go back.
I am a lot nicer than I come across on the internet. Ask JMT. Really.
And yes, I could have not paid it, but I am not that kind of person. I only mention it now to warn other people of what they might be getting into.
I would highly recommend Laurel Creek Farms.

Nope. It opens at 4 p.m.
I've talked about it extensively on the forum, how I get out of work at 3 p.m., so the time in inconvenient.

I can assure everyone that hiknapster is a really nice person! (And her husband is an excellent mechanic, too.)
And I would've had the same reaction as you, hik, if I had discovered that I had paid a 13% tax instead of 9%. It doesn't sound like you had a very good experience at that particular farmers' market so I don't think I'll go there, either.
However, I do want to try the one over here by the East Town Target on Thursday afternoon. If I remember this time.

It's my writing. I have always had this short-writing style, ala Stephen King.
I, on the other hand, am very chatty! Ya think?
Like you, JMT, I paid it, chatted her up, went home, and thought, well what the heck? I'll tell my friends on city-data.
I'm going try to go to the east location, too. Maybe I'll see you there, bubba. I'll be the one with the extraordinarily beautiful child.

Just a reminder that the farmers' market is today...don't want you to forget to go again and have to wait another week.

fallfanatic: I really appreciated the reminder, but I had to go to the pharmacy after work and then I had to rush home. Things were a little crazy at my house this week, but I suspect we will be on a regular schedule next week.
Thank you!
I wonder if JMT is down in the East Towne area buying up all the goods. If he is, I bet he makes it to the farmer's market.
