Default Angry with pets

Why is it so hard to find a nice place that will except pets??? I feel discriminated against for being a pet owner.

Probably because of the costs of repairing or replacing stuff the pets damage or destroy.

That said - we accept pets in the two condos we rent. However, we always (so far) have had to repair something after they move out. We have two dogs and a cat, that are great pets, yet they still have accidents once in a while. With the cat, I'm not so sure it's always an accident though.

There are a lot of issues when owning rental property, and problems and costs involved with renting to people with pets may be more than a lot of landlords wish to deal with.

Default Pets

It appears to me from when I was looking to rent that most apartment complexes allow pets with a substantial deposit but most homes for rent dont allow them. Smoky Crossing in Seymour allows pets as almost all the rental properties they manage do also.

I just have to say I also found this out. In WI. it really wasn"t that hard. I had a few landlords tell me more pets are kept outside down south. (hence the weather) They do seem few and far between. Good Luck!

It is a hassle finding rentals when you have a dog over 25 lbs.

For my last rental, I told a "no dogs allowed" landlord this: "Just give me your worst case scenario.... what is the worst stuff that my dog could do to your apartment... and I will give you that much as a deposit.".

I really wanted the apartment (duplex), and the landlord appreciated the offer... and it gave him assurances that my dog is well behaved.

Unfortunately, my little scenario backfired on my landlord. Given his good experience with me, he decided to allow dogs in the apartment next to mine.. The dogs there made quite a mess.

It's not the landlords that are to blame, it's our fellow dog owners!

Ditto!!! to bfskinnerpunk! I know I may get bashed on this. I found that in my visits to TN. they had the most stay dogs I have ever seen. I have also seen alot of uncaring pet owners.

I know Smoky Crossing allows any size dog as does their management company at other properties they manage, they just dont allow Pit Bulls and maybe one or two other breeds. They do allow big dogs though as I have seen people out walking them.

My little example was from Orlando, actually, but I agree with your assessment of Tennessee.

The dog pounds are overflowing here. In fact, states with few stray dogs actually send vehicles down here to export these dogs to their own town where people stand in line for them!

Yep, there are way too many dogs tied to trees out here.
