I grew up in Brown Co. Kansas, and have lived in Baldwin City, Lawrence, Lenexa, and lived in St. Joseph, MO for about 5 years before moving here to Knoxville. You don't have to tell me about JoCo.
I have discovered VERY quickly this summer that I REALLY, REALLY miss the Lake of the Ozarks, however.

I love the Lake of the Ozarks! My mom's family used to meet at Millstone Lodge every summer for a reunion, but after it was sold and renovated we stopped going, which is a shame. My dad's parents still live there, though it's been quite a while since we've visited. Shooter's was always my favorite place to eat.

But what gets on my nerves is the reaction of those who are posting comments at the News Sentinel web site ( knoxnews.com : Knoxville, Tennessee, News, Business, Homes, Jobs, Cars & Information). People are saying things like Knoxville Center is nothing but thugs and hooligans, and the mall is surrounded by projects.
Am I missing something? Granted, Knoxville Center isn't as swank as West Town, but holy cow some people need to get out of town a little more if they think Knoxville Center is so dangerous. First of all, there are NO "projects" anywhere near the mall. Secondly, compared to malls in Memphis, Nashville and Atlanta, Knoxville Center is pristine!
OK I just had to gripe. I never thought Dillard's belonged in this part of town anyway, so I'm not shedding any tears that it's leaving.

Just a reminder of the topic. Thanks.

I am sometimes annoyed by teenagers at any mall. The East Town Mall seems no different than any mall in that regard.
The thing about the East Town Mall is that it looks dated inside. That's the only depressing aspect of it.
It doesn't have the teaming throngs of shoppers seen at the West Mall... this is the problem, I guess. Sometimes, there seems to be a good crowd in there and at other times, I am surprised that it stays open.
If there are going to be some major stores at Pebble Creek, then maybe the East Town Mall can close down. That said, I find that I shop quite a bit at its Sears.
Target and Wal-Mart... very close to that East Town Mall... appears to be booming with business. I often have to stand in line at the Target Stardust.
I will say that I never ever feel like the shoppers at East Town are sketchy or worrisome.
The place is just too dated... it's an 80's mall.

I googled it, but I still can't figure out where or what Pebble Creek is.

Maybe they have changed the name again, but "Pebble Creek" is the new "Turkey Creek" being developed out East on I-40 near the baseball stadium and the Bass Pro Shop.
Maybe I have the name wrong, but I thought they decided on "Pebble Creek" for the name.
It isn't as convenient as the mall, but perhaps that mall property can be developed into something more interesting.
Sidenote: I am VERY appreciative of these regular rains we've been having! By this time last year, the drought was already creating issues. It's raining as I type this.

There is no way that I would drive to a mall that far away. I like the mall right where it is.
I like the rain, too. I drove to work in it. I just came from outside and it was very refreshing. There were some awful storms in the Chatt/N. Georgia area, though.

Yeah, Dumplin Valley (I think that's Pebble Creek's new name?) is a bit far for East Knoxville folks. Especially if you wanted to run over there after work! On a Friday! The traffic! But that is an aspect no one has discussed - how will the Sevierville development adversely affect East Town? Or will it?
Supposed to be a Target in that development, though. That'll make the metro's, what, sixth? seventh?

I understand it happens everywhere. My point was East Town is on it's way down. Just like College Square was in Morristown. It took a shot in the arm for that mall to recover and I just don't think the type of customer that East Town is attracting is going to do it for them.

I believe the name is Dumplin Creek for the 407 development.
