Quarter Auctions?
Please tell me that someone....anyone knows what these are? I am part of a local Knoxville mommies group and when I asked them about where/when quarter auctions are held around Knoxville, everyone "looked" at me like I had a third eye...LOL--

I know what they are but I don't know of anyone doing these in this area. We used to do these in TX. We also did Bunco a lot there; not much of that here either (that I have found in Maryville).

They may not be legal here. Bingo isn't.
I remember hearing about the anti-gambling laws a couple of years ago when they reinstated the duck race for charity.
This goes back to an FBI Sting in the late 1980s and corruption in the legislature (surprise, surprise).
So legislation was introduced wiping out all kinds of stuff in addition to Bingo. Interesting New York Times story here:

In TX we did these in people's homes and all money raised got invested in the food for the evening and door prizes. Ours was just Mom type parties; no professional gambling.

"Social" Gambling is legal in Texas, illegal in Tennessee. Interesting the way states handle this.
State Gambling Law Summary for all US States
I tried several searches for "quarter auctions" tennessee, knoxville, etc. and came up with nothing which led me to do a little research.

Wow...thanks for the info...I will do a little research--we do them here at fire halls and such, but along the same lines as BINGO, so may not be allowed--we always do ours partially for charity too though...
