I wonder if she'll refer to Pigeon Forge as furniture, too?

Ah, a post I wholeheartedly agree with. I must spread reps around or I would rep you for this.

I used to enjoy reading Allison's work; now - not so much.

Well I don't understand. Yes, I think Knoxvillians are laid back. But of COURSE people are going to wonder about New York Times columnists who randomly make up names for cities. I bet that LA would be confused if she called it "The Potato" and New York would be slightly puzzled if she coined it "Laptop."

I mean, really?

I agree! I think she's pretty witty-- why turn all snarky like that? Why not respond with witty repartee and have people laugh with you, instead of turning them off with that nasty zinger.

Why attribute it at all? Why not just go with it and let people think she thought it up-- or not. "Knoxville is like a big comfy couch. You just want to sink in and stay awhile, and once you do, you never want to leave...yada yada yada..."

Can't wait to read about "The Coop."

When I move to Knoxville in 2010, will this mean that I have to learn how to play the banjo?

Oh, doggy! That will be a fine time. We could all attempt to play banjos.

Maybe we could call The Times for a followup. We can prove that Knoxville isn't called "The Couch" because I won't even have one!
