Check out the Oak Factory's sale. If I can get away, I'll swing by in the next few days and see what they have left and what their prices are like. I think they're closing either the end of this month or next.

OK, so no chairs. NABD. We can sit on the floor and the wall will support us. After one of SMG's cocktails, we won't even care.

You could always use some of those beach chairs. I used those for quite a while. Actually, I'm still using them. I just moved them out to the patio, since I still haven't bought a patio set.

I'll take a Cadillac Margarita, no salt, double limes.

Wait-- the sun isn't quite over the yardarm yet.

This post makes me feel so much better! For some stupid reason I think that my house needs to look perfect.

Don't worry, hiknapster, my dining room table is a card table. And one that's nearing collapse, at that!

Nobody expects a new house to look perfect. Or to have seating.
Check out Terry's Auction Saturday night.
Upcoming Auction Information
Click on the "photos" link under the little photo.
About halfway down the page, there are two wood rocking chairs and a wooden bench. Those would be great for temporary seating and then move to other rooms or even outside. They're the useful sort of pieces that are always handy to have.
Or pick up a couple of rocking chairs at Cracker Barrel. Great inside or out.
I've never regretted a rocking chair purchase. They can be used so many places.

Or check out estate auctions. My parents got an antique beautiful green bench rocker, handmade from the appearance, for about 5 bucks at one. It's beautiful on their porch, too. Stuff like that can be a hard sell at an auction.

Congratulations Hik!!!! When DH and I moved into our wonderful new condo, we were in the same boat!!! We had sold everything prior to moving here from the Keys!! Over a three week period, I believe we visited every furniture store in Knoxville and the surrounding area!

Like you, I didn't know what my style was!! I had lived on islands for 10 years and everything was bamboo and rattan, so my style for mountain living has definitely changed! We knew we wanted leather for the family room and we both like darker furniture - so we started from there. Then we visited every furniture store we could find to see what was available and what appealed to us both! And it was kind of like finding the right house - remember?? You just knew that was the one!! Well, for us it was the same with the furniture!! Once we found what we liked, we started pricing around and found the best deal available on that particular item.

Sooooo, after all that, I will tell you where we found the best deals!!

Knoxville Wholesale Furniture: We purchased a beautiful leather sofa and chairs for our family room and a dining table and buffet.

American Signature Furniture (Kingston Pike): We finally found the perfect bedroom set.

World Market (Turkey Creek): A small table for the foyer and a cabinet for our big screen tv

Kirklands (Turkey Creek): Great prices on lamps

Sears (Oak Ridge): If anyone has a lower price on anything they have for sale, they will give you the item at the lower price plus an extra 10% off of the difference. When we were looking at LCD tv's, the salesman said, let me check online to see if anyone has it cheaper. He checked HHGregg, Circuit City, Best Buy and found a lower price at HHGregg, so he gave us the better price plus the extra discount. Now that is good customer service.

Home Depot (Oak Ridge): We found the washer and dryer we wanted at HHGregg and they had the lowest price, however we live around the corner from Home Depot, so we stopped to see if they would match the price. They couldn't believe that the price was so low, but they called and verified that it was indeed the sale price, so they matched it. And I feel better buying from Home Depot, because if we ever have to move again, I know that Home Depot is everywhere. I had never heard of HHGregg until we moved here.

Bed, Bath and Beyond: There are so many things that you will need for your new home and BB&B is great, but be sure to go online and print out coupons before going. I don't buy anything there or at Linen and Things without coupons. I know that BB&B will accept up to 5 coupons per order, and if you have 10 coupons then make sure your hubby is with you and split the order! We had to buy dishes, glasses, linens, shower curtains, etc. When I say we sold everything before we moved, I mean we really sold everything!!!

Oh yeah, Staples: We bought my desk, bookcases, file cabinet and storage unit from Staples. If you watch their sales online, and order online, they deliver for free and you don't have to lug those heavy boxes.

I guess you can tell that we definitely helped 'stimulate the economy' when we moved to East TN!!! However, we are now settled and everything we purchased is perfect and it was worth taking all of that time to look all over town!!

We checked Brown Squirrel, but the salesman there told us they we would probably be happier with a 'real' furniture store because all of their stuff is imported so it isn't great quality!! I don't think I would want him selling my product, but I appreciate him giving us a heads up!!

Good luck on your shopping venture..........hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!

Smile How fun to start all over! New towels - what a luxury.

Wow, Bebette, that would end our retirement! I would have to go back to work to pay for it all.

It sounds like you found lots of bargains and great finds. I know you will enjoy it all.

Hik, there are so many great places to shop in Knoxville and you have so many great suggestions. Your house will be a palace before you know it. (And, don't forget to mooch off your relatives, too!)

I don't know. We are experiencing some problems with the mortgage. I'm about ready to give up. Part of the problem was that my husband picked out this mortgage company from the phone book.

There seems to be a lot of miscommunication. I'm about ready to cancel today's home inspection.

On top of it all, my landlord, with whom I've had a wonderful relationship, has suddenly raised the rent and wants me to sign a year's lease. We have been at will for almost two years. I suspect that he got wind that we were buying a house.

Since we have had so many issues with the neighborhood, I will end up leaving, no matter what. This means I may be looking for a rental.

If I don't get any clarity from my broker, this morning, I would like a denial letter and my earnest money back. Wish me good luck with that.

I am very upset.

Don't give up! There are always last-minute hitches in even the smoothest closings with even the best lenders. Especially these days, with the stricter mortgage scrutiny. Things take longer and what you're experiencing is what everybody experiences. They'll work it out and things will get back on keel. Really.

Miscommunication and snafus are just part of the process. Last-minute doubts and buyer's remorse are common, too. If you want the house, I'd keep moving forward. Things will work out.
