My 2006-2007 phone book says that there is one on Northshore Drive. However, the new phone book lists none. Their website says there aren't any in Knoxville.

I highly recommend Home Federal.

Wachovia coverage by city

It is. It has about 24 branches around the region and a bit beyond, like in Pigeon Forge, Oak Ridge, etc.

They've been in business since 1924 and they are highly rated. Essentially, I just pay for my checks. I'm afraid of big banks, at the moment.

We are watching several banks get gobbled up by healthier ones in our region. I imagine it is the same in TN right now, too. Does Home Federal have many branches in the Knox area?

The problem is when your bank is acquired by the new bank you don't get to keep all the same interest rates on earnings, fees, other things that attracted you to your original bank. So, it often means shopping around again.

We will soon be Sun Trust and I expect to cash in my 5 3/4% CDs when they mature next month rather than take the 3 1/4% that Sun Trust is offering. Uck!! What portfolio looks good? GBH? Hik?

I'm so confused on these banks! I've been with the same bank all most 15 years. I would hate to give up all the free stuff. But I guess it's better than staying here. Most likely I'll go to a credit union.
Sure would have been nice to buy fuel insurance like South West Airlines did but for your car.... they are paying all most 70% less than the other airlines.......
They are saying in 4-6 weeks gas will drop buy 20-40 cents a gallon or more...... I hope so

The only thing that is going to drop is your fuel indicator.

Yes. There are lots of branches of Home Federal. They are a very conservative, locally-owned bank.

I've put all my eggs in the house basket. Not much else to invest in, lately. Granted, I was a bit premature, but the deal was there and I really needed to get out of here. Even I didn't know how much! And I'm afraid that interest rates are going to go up.

I haven't looked at CD rates. I know my dad was just complaining about interest rates. He's in Florida. He went shopping around and wasn't impressed, either.

hiknapster I here what your saying. I'm in the same boat.... I hoping to find some little no nothing on my trip in August. So I can bail and get out of here also..... the sooner the better....I'm not waiting any longer. I was hoping that Wachovia was in Knoxville at least so I would not have to transfer. It would be well worth the 65 mile drive ever so often, the other banking stuff could be done on line......
